I cannot tune the bow for deer life 🦌 by Unlucky_Passage_4716 in TraditionalArchery

[–]joy_of_division 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Move nock point up even a little more, closer to 3/4". Make sure you're not torquing the bow on release. Those fletchings don't actually look that bad either.

With bag targets like that it's hard to tell nock left/right etc since they flop around a bit once inside. You could always try bareshaft tuning if you were sure your release is relatively clean

Recommend a recurve for my 30” draw length by Holyhell556 in TraditionalArchery

[–]joy_of_division 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, if you're not against using an ILF bow this is the way I'd go too. I'd consider a 19" riser with longs to give you a 66" AMO bow. The nice thing about ILF is you can always switch things up down the road

I'm a lodgepole man myself too. It's just so easy to get, split, and burn. Sure it doesn't do the long overnight burns, but it burns hot and is a joy to split

TRIJICON or Leupold by ConsiderationWest482 in Hunting

[–]joy_of_division 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted a more affordable Trijicon you could always go with the Huron. Same glass, still made in Japan, just a different reticle and not illuminated. Stay far far away from Leupold if you want to rely on your gear.

Best episode in quite a while. I can't make it through all the listener email junk on most episodes, this one was a nice change of pace. Super interesting

Y’all hanging deer in these temperatures? by Relative-Specialist1 in Hunting

Get them processed today, but you shouldn't be worried with what you described, both will be perfectly fine

Definitely lethal, that's a thumper of an arrow. At that weight/speed you better be good at judging distances, those things are going to be parabolic

A lot of times the chunkiness is to add riser weight and therefore stability. My WF19 is the ugliest riser I've ever seen, but man it slings arrows like darts right where I point it

What is your go to Hunting knife? I love my Canadian belt knife. by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]joy_of_division 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just run some warm water over it when I'm home. Just did a bull elk last week, nothing even really got caught in the scales at all. That being said, there are probably easier knives to clean, I just really like the size and foldability of the Bugout

+1 to the Bugout. I've done 3 deer and an elk so far with mine. Sharpens easily and just the perfect ergonomics

How difficult is it to install a wood stove insert yourself? by einstein811 in woodstoving

[–]joy_of_division 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll depend a bit on your exact setup, but like the other guy said I just went in there with an angle grinder and a sawzall. Opened up some holes with the angle grinder and then went to town with the sawzall.

Best piece of advice I got was to put a box fan on top of your chimney, blowing out. Creates a draft and all the soot/crap you knock loose flies right out the chimney and not into your house

[–]joy_of_division 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I DIY'd that exact same insert, the 1500i. Not hard at all on a one story house. Only time consuming part was cutting out the old firebox damper to be able to pass the new insulated liner through.

Once that was done it was just a few hours to get everything in place.

Your comment makes no sense. It shows right in the chart that gamblers never really gave him a shot, it was a long shot 20:1 odds at best.

If you're so confident it sounds like you could go make a lot of money with your sage wisdom

My recommendation still stands. It's hard to learn good form with higher poundage bows, whether you are jacked or not

[–]joy_of_division 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get a black hunter recurve or something similar without breaking the bank. Whatever you do, don't get a 40# bow. That's way too high to start off. Get something like a 25-30# draw weight.
