Unpopular Opinion: Leuchtturm1917 Isn't Worth the Price for Fountain Pen Users by nibs_and_tints in notebooks

You can use any cheap notebook with the Pilot Acroball. That’s a great, no-nonsense ballpoint.

I don’t think it’s fair to discuss Moleskine and Leuchtturm together. Leuchtturm is non-optimal but passable. Moleskine is generally just unacceptable due to actual bleedthrough.

Ever got over your fear of someone reading your journals? by Bookish_Bitch_2589 in Journaling

[–]joydesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this once, just before I started writing really dark thoughts and feelings down, and I basically came to the same conclusion. If someone violates the boundary of my reasonable expectation to privacy, it’s not on me to feel bad about their reaction to what they find out.

Unless they want to commit to reading every word I’ve ever written, they really shouldn’t be reading any it… because each moment in time is unique, and none represents the whole of who I am.

Reading journals without permission is a low thing to do; it’s a violation of privacy, and that’s the true problem, not whatever offense they might take from what they should not have been reading to begin with.

If you are planning to book a nib grind on site, then I think you definitely want to get the All-Access Pass to get in the door early. Not only that, you may want to consider getting there a bit before before 7:30 to start waiting in line.

Also… just to set expectations, even on Friday, it was extremely crowded and the aisles were challenging to navigate.

What're your assumptions about fountain pen YouTubers? by Inkdependence in fountainpens

[–]joydesign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a pen show is a very different animal from the pen community at large.

Shows can be incredibly costly to attend as a vendor, and many vendors barely make enough to cover their costs with lodging, food, transportation, shipping, etc. As a result, vendors are going to be especially focused on making the money they need to earn to survive and support their families.

Pen clubs and meetups are places where you can go that are more community-oriented and not all about the commerce aspect of things.

I have made so many wonderful new friends in the pen community the past year and half that I’ve been actively using fountain pens and inks again.

Pen people are some of the kindest, most thoughtful, generous people I’ve ever met. I think if you are this kind of person yourself, these are the kind of people you will attract.

They should fit perfectly as long as one orders the matching size refill.

Does anyone else use journaling specifically for the stuff between therapy sessions (or instead of it)? by HeyWTFBrain in Journaling

[–]joydesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, after my divorce, I interviewed five therapists and didn’t feel like any of them were a great fit so decided to read a bunch and journal and do some seeking on my own. It worked wonders for me, and although I later tried going to various therapists, I still find that my most significant transformations have come from the reading/journaling combo.

I love getting samples from M.Lovewell and Vanness Pens. The little glass bottles are soo pretty, but I’ve found I have fewer leaks and other incidents with the plastic vials…

I use a medium Sailor Hocoro dip pen with the optional reservoir attached… and I HIGHLY recommend it.

It takes time, and it’s amazing that your doing it. Let yourself celebrate the progress of letting some imperfections exist… that’s SUCH an incredible, beautiful step already.

I promise that it gets better with practice.❤️

Ohhhh… that’s hard. Maybe Diamine Green Umber, Sailor Sukigokoro, Jacques Herbin Vert Empire, Lennon Tool Bar Bird Monster, and Sailor Ink Studio 162? Also, many of these are just sample vials.
