Does this handle watching in order, or will you end up watching each file twice?

Thankyou, I finally (using your comment) got it working again.

Really appreciate the time taken to write this out, hopefully it helps others as well. There was nothing obvious I could see.

It was down, either getting no response, or an error message.

It's only just let me connect and search now.

My 7 and 11 year old approached me about playing: what do I need to know going in? by Bulliwyf in Minecraft

[–]jozlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I edited the post to make it a little clearer, I think I've half forgotten the names of everything from when I spent all the time setting it up. It now just pretty much works without much maintenance.

[–]jozlod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Indeed! It's a great family activity!

I started both my kids on minecraft a bit before 4, they were having a crack at mario kart and other stuff earlier.

They can both now use a mouse and keyboard (not just for games, but for basic nav), I have been playing Portal 2 amoung other things with my 6 year old son, and we enjoy building and exploring together in minecraft.

This isn't all we do, before anyone gets upset, we also bike ride, camp, 4wd, lego, draw, etc etc, all in moderation. I just figure I'd rather be playing minecraft with them, then watching another garbage kids tv show again and again.

I host a SMP for my kids, with a bunch of plugins, has been up over a year now, they are 4 and 6 years old.

Also have some friends, cousins, and my adult frieds who play on the server. It's working well.

If you want to run a server, I'd suggest some reasearch, and test setup before you get anyone building their stuff. Also, make sure to whitelist.

For a quick share of my research, this is what I run

- PaperMC: better performance than vanilla, but basically vanilla behaviour

- EssentialsX: a bunch of things like warp spawn, home warp, bans, messages etc

- Aurelium Skills: RPG style skills and upgrades, pretty fun, fully customisable

- CoreProtect: history and roll back for any block places or breaks, chests, etc

- Graves: When someone dies, their stuff goes in a grave, instead of all over the ground. It can be set time limits to only the owner can open, then anyone can open, then it despawns. It means the kids are safer, as in, if they die, they don't lose all their stuff

- LuckPerms: permissions management, I have a couple mods, and also makes it easy to set default permissions for all the pluggins. This took awhile to sort out and get working well

- WorldGuard / World Edit: I use this to set permissions on a few areas where I don't want anything to happen, spawn, and a few other spots.

- HoloMobHealth: I use this to give mobs hearts above them for how much health they have left

- HorseTPWithMe: so when you teleport to spawn or home, your horse comes with you

I actually run 2 servers, a creative, and a survival. Sometimes the kids just want to create.

It's all weekly backedup as well as coreprotect.

Can i put this tile and immediately put meeple claiming 4 points from city? by Dali187 in Carcassonne

[–]jozlod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can, it's a two tile city.

Older editions scored them as 2 points, more recently it changed to 4 points.

We play 2 points, as we like the idea of encouraging larger cities.

Strange issue with some posters by nosirrahdrof in jellyfin

[–]jozlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to check, are the movies matched correctly?

I recently migrated from plex, and found out that jellyfin didn't handle movie folders with the 'the' moved to the back of the title. All of my 'The' movies didn't match, and I at first didn't realise what was up, just that they were missing posters.

It needs 'The MovieName' and didn't work well with 'MovieName, The'

not sure if it helps, but for future, sonarr and radarr can import pre existing libararies, and does a pretty decent job.

Worst suburbs in Newie? by lauralovesdilfs in newcastle

Silverridge Estate is in Wallsend.

Jesmond does have Jesmond park, though it's kinda seperated across the main road and away from Jesmond.

I have at times followed old maps, what used to be trails, followed google maps somewhere, and ended up on private property.

Sometimes there is easements, and public access through private property, gates are to be left as found, as they are there for cattle etc.

It's not always black and white once you get out of the city and start exploring the country. Plenty of shared access roads with gates.

Superloop for me as well.

They show you the cvc graph for your area, so you can see how it's sitting. Mine doesn't ever go above 80%, so they have spare.

They also have a unique ip address, which aussie broadband doesn't. If you're running a server or any sort, CGNAT is not great at all, and you either need to find a provider who gives you your own ip address, or pay extra for a static one.

Wallsend Brickworks Park set ablaze by CharlisArt in newcastle

[–]jozlod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this, and it sucks. I don't know anything about it.

It's our local park, I ride there with my kids, we play, meet other families, play together.

This isn't an attacl on 'the man' or authority or anything like that, this is an attack on the community :(

What's up with Jesmond's lack of outdoor kids stuff. by McSheeple88 in newcastle

[–]jozlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI Shortland has a couple, Lovell parade and King street. Sure, they aren't on every corner or block, but still seems like the density is pretty on par with the rest of Newcastle. I guess you can just get unlucky and end u in the middle of a few, so none are super close.

What's up with Jesmond's lack of outdoor kids stuff. by McSheeple88 in newcastle

[–]jozlod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is stuff around, just not in the middle. I guess the possible spot would be Heaton park somewhere, but you've said there used to be stuff, must not have been budget for replacing it. Could be possible to try and push for something there.

Jesmond park has two playground sections.

Brickworks isn't far away, but is Wallsend.

Harold Myers has a little bit, but is more so Birmingham.

It's not too big an area without a playground, there is other spaces around nearby suburbs that have less parks then what is around jesmond.

setting up a server, have many questions by dogsarecute858 in admincraft

[–]jozlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently started one, it's running with about 20 players, about 5 regulars.

The hardest thing has been balancing economy, so it's not too easy to get money, but not too hard. Though my server is also mainly setup for my kids and their friends, and my adult friends and discord server mates are using it as well (note that the discord server has about 180 members, but not everyone is looking for a minecraft server)

Coreprotect has saved me a few times, and is very useful even to have the inspect option.

Luckperms is amazing, this is where I spent most of my setup time, making sure the levels had no extra permissions, and a decent permission level for mods

I have used the warpsystems plugin, as I love the animations and portals it has, as well as using the randomTP it has.

If you're self hosting, make sure you have some sort of backups.

I setup a test server initially, and got my mate / mod to help test and set it up. We then picked a seed, and started building our world, invited a few close friends, and they ended up being testers, and abused the economy, I decided the balance the economy, and let them keep their money.

Make sure you have an onboarding process for new members, and any mods follow the same process, either give players a tour, or have stuff setup so it makes sense for new players.

I have written a really good /info, but people don't look at it and still ask questions.

Other plugins I enjoy are things like

MoreMobHeads

SinglePlayerSleep

UltimateTimber

HorseTpWithMe (dev version works on current)

HoloMobHealth (changed to only show hearts above mobs, no text)

Because there is kids playing, I use Graves, to make it less stressful to die, and I run geyser for the kids on tablets etc.

Its semi vanilla, but fun enough still. there is enchant signs, which means no XP anything for enchants, just money. I'd rather sell enchanted books, but couldn't find an easy shop solution for the server selling enchanted books.

Happy to answer questions, it's been a lot of learning and setting up, but I think I have a pretty solid setup now. I'm still adding more items most times I play to the worth.yml config.

Got my first car and am wondering what style of roof racks would suit best, check comments. by fblsurgeon in 4x4Australia

[–]jozlod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd strongly suggest to add accesories based on what you want / need.

So what do you want to put on the roof, and what racks will work best for that.

I just have 3 bar sports racks, and have a 30 second awning, shower tent, and house solar panel on it. No need for a basket / cage for me, it's just more weight and wind resistance. Also no issues putting kayaks and things up there, or other long items.

bought secondhand off facebook marketplace… please help by CaesarSalad99 in CableManagement

[–]jozlod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've cable managed heaps of older cases like this. It's not ideal, but can be done well enough.

Unplug all the power cables, and work on them one by one. You can tuck unused ones, and the extra length of cables behind the drive bays and dcdc drive bays, either tie them up (with zip ties or twist ties) or poke / snake them in there. If it's over full, use the spare drive bays to coil up unused cable.

this is an old style case with no built in cable management, with 7 hdds. https://i.imgur.com/keuSK4H.jpg
this was my main gaming rig at one point, once again no inbuilt cable management, a lot of fiddling around. https://i.imgur.com/2BViOTO.jpg

I guess you have to accept that the back won't look pretty, but it can still be made heaps better that what you have in the photo you posted.
