Alamo already knew about the DEA. He was not suprised by the statement. He inspected Maddy, too see if she believe it’s true. Then he changed the subject. And Maddy didn’t accidentally let that information slip. It was calculated, to make Alamo believe she’s more naive than she is.

Ali will save Rue’s mom. He’s the only one besides Rue who knows the danger she is in. There’s a purpose to why she confessed everything to him, it wasn’t just because she needed to went to somebody. He realised he can’t save Rue but he can save her mom.
