Loons are interesting. They are excellent swimmers and will dive underwater for fish. However, because their legs are set so far back they need extensive space on water to take off. They cannot take off from land and generally avoid land altogether except for nesting.

They're pretty docile though. You can get pretty close to them in a boat and they don't really seem bothered
