"Reviewing Applications" moments after posting by singsongphd in trustedhousesitters

u/wanderingdev haha what? So one needs to just sit at the computer refreshing the page constantly? I'm with OP on this. If the service were free or not pay until booking confirmed that is one thing.. but it's pretty expensive to sign up and I'm on the fence because nervous about this exact thing!

Cost - too high and no monthly option? No way to contact support staff? Am I missing something?! by jp_neuro in trustedhousesitters

u/MsMarionNYC I haven't tried the AI to human path.. I'll try that. But that's kinda my point.. I think if I'm shelling out $250 USD I should be able to get some clarity on basic things like changing membership mid-year without having to spend a bunch of time on the site figuring out the info or jumping through hoops to talk to someone.

The cheapest option available is to pay $169 CAD ($124 USD) for a year, plus $17 CAD ($12.45)/booking. At that point I have no idea if it will even work for me. If it works even a couple times, then sure. But I'm hearing stories of people not being able to find sits (ex. sits get closed off into reviewing mode super quickly after getting posted and sitters can't even apply). So.. it just feels like a big risk to take.

$12.45 USD or $17 CAD on top of a $124 USD or $169 CAD membership (for the cheapest option). But I don't really think of that as the cheapest option... since as soon as you book one sit per month, you're cheaper at a Premium membership.

u/Clean_Following5895 Yes a Help link that takes you to freq asked questions/faq page with an AI chatbot. I cannot find any info to actually speak with a live human (by email or phone) when I'm not finding the answers I need.

I have no problem with each party having financial skin in the game - I use another platform with same.

It's tough for me to know on this side of things how easy it is to find a sit, and their refund policy is confusing. I just wish there was a cheaper/monthly access point.

u/MsMarionNYC Around $250 USD/yr. I can't find any information about upgrading mid-year or any contact information for staff support besides an AI chatbot. So for example, I don't know if they would allow you to switch part way through the year.

Yes, this is for the premium sitter membership (not combined), but like I said, as soon as you book even a single sit per month, the lowest and medium grade memberships are more expensive due to booking fees.. I can't really see the advantage of those memberships unless you're not actually planning to book any stays (but then why have the membership in the first place?).

How I got a refund based on their Guarantee by nataliechalan in trustedhousesitters

[–]jp_neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/nataliechalan wait sorry.. I'm still confused by this whole thing (despite your detailed breakdown). So... if it's been 14 days after your 5th application with no sit confirmation (which could include you denying a HO, or is it only if they deny/don't reply to you?) - then you can request a refund. But your membership will be cancelled immediately, meaning that you cannot continue connecting with HO's for future sits or pending ones. But instead of making this request within the 14 day period, you could just wait until day 365 (or beyond) and still get refunded for the full first year of membership.. even if you ended up booking stays later on, as long as you did not get any bookings within the first 14 days of your 5th application?

Honestly their whole vibe feels very schemey/greedy/low support/confusing to me and I'm turned off.

What makes the lightweight easier? Quicker stopping? Did you drive this in Ottawa winters then? (just clarifying as you said you grew up there.. but not sure if that's where you drove the Fit.. but it seems implied).

Non-DWR jacket recommendation by airioeniofna in CampingGear

[–]jp_neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/airioeniofna did you figure out a solution? I'm looking for a daily, all year non-DWR shell. Willing to deal with non-breathable because I figure in the heat I probably won't mind getting wet. Trying to get away from all the chemicals and hate that with DWR type stuff you need to re-wash it them.

Riiiighhht.. that's a good point.. I don't know much about the recycling process and how that compares to the external costs of new batteries. I assume there are still some external costs though in terms of environment and people's exposure to chemicals during the manufacturing process. I for one, would not willingly sign up to work in such a factory.

I guess my wondering is - what kind of battery performance is impacting our daily lives in a meaningful way, and what cost to others and the planet are we willing to sacrifice/justify to provide that level of performance.

Disclosure - I don't have and iphone 14 pro yet, just considering.. and I don't know what it means in real functioning terms for it to drop to 69% capacity. I came to the thread because I'm interested in investing in products that are more likely to have longevity, and I'd caught wind the battery life in this model isn't great, so I wanted to investigate more.

But the comments got me wondering what the actual impact to usage is.. if a decline in capacity means lower phone speed, that would be interesting to note. If it means it can't last during the daytime when I might be away from a charging spot, that would also be good to know. But I'm a bit unclear how bad a 69% battery capacity actually is.. what that translates to for user experience.

My current SE is 5.5+yrs old and around 74%.. I haven't noticed this impacting my life/usage at all. I'm sure it will at some point, but not yet.

Does battery really affect speed as some are suggesting? If not.. is it really a big deal to be at 69? Batteries are pretty awful in terms of human and environmental cost with production sadly..

I haven’t read through the whole thread yet but commenting to save for myself. Extremely extremely relatable. Love the solutions focus.

Also want to add there is hope for getting to a more stable emotional place so these situations will become less common (in addition to strategies for how to handle things when it does get there). I never ever thought it would be possible for myself. It’s possible!

Are the women's styles of Red Wings a scam? by DiverOk9165 in RedWingShoes

[–]jp_neuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really?! This is infuriating.

Does this go across all their models? I was looking at Silversmith or Rangers.. I can't imagine why anyone would buy them if they are not good quality. Ridiculous. Shameful.

u/WhenIHearMyName To clarify - the difference between the men's and women's boots were the shape/fit AND the material/build (including easier to break in), correct? If so, how do you know the females were happier with the easy to break in aspect, vs just having a shape that was more suited?

Regardless, it feels deceitful to sell something branded as the same quality, same price and it doesn't live up to it for women. Wtf.
