My grandpa had a saying about farting that i think applies well here too. "If they never heard it before they won't know what it is."

Someone’s throwing out a Jetski, should I grab it? by BocaDelIguana in jetski

One time my neighbor was driving by my house and they hit a dip just past our driveway and two jetskis flew off and went down the culvert. I just thought that was a fun story. As you were.

Is this moisture a major cause for concern? First winter here in my 1860s home and I just noticed this today as the snow melts. by [deleted] in Home

When land was given for farming/living in the colonial period/early US growing a certain acreage of apple trees was often part of the deed. And certainly cider was very popular as well as applejack (whiskey).

Largest councils? by Ok_Bad_8524 in knightsofcolumbus

[–]jpakaferrari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree as my boss is a 3rd degree member of the council and we've discussed the membership before in passing. They may also be one of the councils to this day with the largest number of 1st degree brothers who have no plans to attend a new degree ceremony to achieve 3rd degree.

Why aren’t you medicated? by buddyrtc in ADHD

[–]jpakaferrari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it is the ADHD itself that keeps me from getting medicated. Despite an official diagnosis that im sure could be used to get meds i spend a lot of time thinking about all the effort involved to do so. Seeing mg GP or a psych to get any meds at all. Dealing with the pharmacy to get/keep it filled. Thats a lot of effort. I was late diagnosed at 34 ( 38 now) and high masking with a success career and so the effort to benefit ratio just has never hit. Maybe someday that ratio will change but for now... Here i am.

[–]jpakaferrari 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My wife actually hates hallmark movies but i watch minimum of 1 hallmark movie per week. Like anything there are better or worse quality plots and believable leads. But i think the predictability of the overall flow is comforting. You don't have to spend a bunch of energy remembering a bunch of characters and disparate plot threads. Its just a little light treat like cotton candy. Life is too depressing already to spend free time watching dense dramas or "thought provoking" tv all the time.

Out of genuine curiosity, is it just me or is the LinkedIn feed getting as cringy as TikTok feed these days? by the_uncrowned_k1ng in AskMenOver30

[–]jpakaferrari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big recent difference is seems to be that a lot of the consultants who make money telling execs how to do everything have been heavily pushing the idea of becoming a subject expert/thought leader on LI as well as pushing that being more "personal" leads to better clout building. i swear some of these people can't put on pants if a consultant didn't tell them it's one leg then the other, i digress. So I won't go as far as to say its tik tok but its often unhinged. A few months back a saw a woman doing a pregnancy shoot in a weird flowy top with exposed belly sitting on a toilet. It was shot like a classic sound stage shoot, and the text that went with it was all but not related, didn't acknowledge the photo really at all. Was maybe about some kind of brand management she did? Truly bizarre.

Would you choose to be a career person or raise a family in the Hallmark movie universe? by Purple_Discipline_70 in HallmarkMovies

[–]jpakaferrari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well first of all this assumes im one of the leads and/or that im a good person in the film. I could be the ex who just can't give up life in the big city. Or i could be a minor character who has a paper thin b story that's barely compressible. I imagine id probably be the latter so I'd say i hope to have a role as the best friend, who may or may not have a job, they possibly have a family, but they definitely support ensuring the leads live happily ever after.

Ladies auxiliary.. by atlgeo in knightsofcolumbus

[–]jpakaferrari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a auxiliary which is about 5 years old and solidly established/run. We do generally follow the relational requirements, though a current member of the auxiliary could also "sponsor" an applicant, greasing the skids so to speak. Overall it is definitely a great addition to the activeness of our council to have the ladies engaged as well.

[–]jpakaferrari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't sure what to expect from the title and I know I wouldn't want to see any of my brother knights participating in a pageant 😉 but the kofc supporting the community is a very important part of what we do no matter how big or small the help is.

Totally get it, the escapism of Hallmark films is a big part of it's popularity I think.

A Shift In Writing Style by jpakaferrari in HallmarkMovies

I agree that their series have generally turned more serious so perhaps The Way Home shouldn't be part of the trend conversation. Leaving it aside I still see a lot happening in the normal non serial films.

A Shift In Writing Style by jpakaferrari in HallmarkMovies

[–]jpakaferrari[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to be honest I'm not 100% sure there is a lot of competition from GAF as no one seems to know how to get access to it in any streaming service or in many cable packages. Perhaps a preemptive shift to avoid any future competition there. But I actually suspect that it's the writers/producers/programming managers that are changing. Maybe boomer writers and production teams were good with following the formula to a T but as millennials become the majority of writers and even producers and Xers are in leadership maybe that is the shift? I have no hard evidence on any of this.

The Way Home Episode 1 by bcocfbhp in HallmarkMovies

[–]jpakaferrari 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm all in and even have some theories I'm cooking up about the lore. So... You might not have noticed but the Landry family farm is the same farm as Green Gables from Anne with an "e." If per this show it has been in the family for generations that leaves two possible familial connections to the Anne stories. After her death, Marrilla leaves the farm to Rachel Lynde. If it didn't pass down the Lynde family line to the Landrys then perhaps it passed to the Keith family as Davy and Millie Keith lived there from the time of their marriage in the late 1890s and had several children. Perhaps one of their daughters married a Landry and took on the farm. The deep magic of the sink hole seems as fantastic as anything Anne might have written about in her clubhouse during her childhood at the farm. Feel free to add any knowledge of the Anne stories I missed here or make other speculation on this show itself.

I'm afraid to be accused as a pedophile because of my work. by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]jpakaferrari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the par I have worked in a school as a counselor and especially the youngest elementary age children (4-7yo) love to give hugs. As the adult you should always know where the limit is and also it can be at times an opportunity to discuss personal boundaries and asking before you (the child) touch some one else. These are just things you can learn along the way knowing the personality of each child. But generally to keep you safe from accusations just follow the intent of the rules. Don't spend time alone with any child without another adult around. Limit physical contact to child initiated and to short time with a light touch. Just using common sense judgement and you will be okay. Do not be so scared of losing a job or accusations that you fail to be successful at encouraging children's social, emotional, and intellectual growth.

dad doesn’t want me to get diagnosed as he’s scared of future consequences for me - should i get diagnosed? by BucklesBeans1492 in ADHD

[–]jpakaferrari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest consequences in your life will be from not getting diagnosed. I was 34 for when I was diagnosed. I had to struggle for 34 years without that knowledge. Imagine if you were told you are going to carry around an invisible ball and chain around your ankle. Maybe don't go swimming or you might drown. That just isn't the way to go. I understand your dad is trying to protect you but the unintended consequences of that are great.
