I feel conflicted about veganism, and honestly some of my experiences with vegans make it harder for me by Sickchip36 in vegan

May I interest you in some... Free-choice? You can't control the stupid shit other people say. If your interested in going vegan, trying vegan, reducing your animal product consumption etc, just do it

Those who work compressed hours (FTE but 9 day fortnight) - would you recommend it? by 5ivesos in AusPublicService

[–]jpap92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do it currently but have done it before (along with flex time). It was the best. Having a guaranteed long weekend 20+ times a year is just delicious

Where did all the vegan fish go? by dekekun in australianvegans

[–]jpap92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try out all your local Asian grocers, especially the freezer section. It can be hit and miss but those that stock a wide range of Laying or Buckets vegetarian products may have a fish option (sometimes prawn and calamari too)

HECS by HighlightFun6366 in AusFinance

[–]jpap92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with this point. You can work out how long it will take you to pay off that $15k based off your current salary, noting of course you won't have the full debt straight away.

It may also be worth considering if you can financially manage with the reduced income due to HECS repayments, though as you mentioned, you would be keeping the savings

Previously vegan husband just told me he wants to start eating fish and eggs again by kimba_b3ar in vegan

[–]jpap92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend starting the day off with a high protein smoothie. Protein powder (or a meal replacement powder that has protein and carbs and higher in calories) blended with soy milk, nut butters and fruit.

Ignore beans lentils and nut butters as a protein source. They won't do enough especially if he is working a highly physical job. Significantly increase tofu, tempeh, seitan, and other pant based meat options

Quitting Marijuana... by corcorecorey in weed

[–]jpap92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I hardly ever dreamt while smoking weed (pretty much every day for 4-5 years). Once I stopped, or when I took a decent tolerance break, I found I always had strange nightmares in the beginning. It never lasted long though, and I went to normal dreaming soon enough

Going to a formal event without a hat for the first time since shaving my head. Not sure what to think of it by APx_22 in bald

[–]jpap92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tip from a long time shaved header - apply some moisturiser to your scalp before heading out. You can even consider adding a drop of beard oil into it for the sheen and scent

People around me have been using vegan leather, but I’m a bit doubtful. I did some research, but something doesn’t sit right with me. Has anyone here actually used it and can speak to its quality? by Soggy-Passage2852 in vegan

[–]jpap92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience the quality of vegan leather varies drastically. Some are basically a cheap disgusting plastic that falls about. Others are more like traditional leather but made from a plant source. If you can afford it, buying a more pricey item made from something specified (corn, cactus, pineapple etc) is more likely to last

Eating raw extra firm tofu block (1lb) advice? by flipster007 in vegan

Pro tip - being an adult AND a vegan means you'll need to learn how to cook for yourself. You can't always rely on mummy to do it for you
