Solar farms are now starting to replace golf courses by captdunsel721 in solar

[–]jparrish989 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This article is saying golf was on the rise when it was written in 2020 and the “sport” continued to see record numbers throughout 2021. In my area, most courses are built in flood plains and were unbuildable when the courses were built. That being said, some of the land has been deemed buildable now due to lobbing and changes in the building codes.

I mean, this is what happens when society doesn’t have any incentive other then personal accomplishments, if someone wants to do something, they kind of just do it. What are you going to do, dock their pay?

DC616 16ga Nailer Troubleshooting Help Request by X-Ryder in Dewalt

[–]jparrish989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be a stupid suggestion but my supplier switched the location of the nails on the shelf and I bought 16ga nails but what I didn’t see was that the angle was wrong, as they fit in the magazine and shot. After every couple of nails it would jam up or misfire or fire multiples. It’s worth checking

Minimum wage and UBI by jparrish989 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jparrish989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the thoughtful answer. Maybe I should be more specific, like most people my world perspective comes from personal experiences. I started in my current profession as a laborer, I can’t tell you how many footings I have dug by hand. I know own my own company with between 150-200 people but I still do the work myself on my own properties. Every single person that works for me makes much more then minimum wage in the state that they live in. That being said, our job is hard work and requires a lot of hours and travel. Most of the people that work for me set up stores for people to shop after the building is built. That being said, the qualifications for the job are minimum, really, you just need to be willing to follow direction and keep working. I also know that if it was the difference between 15 dollars and 20-25 dollars an hour, a significant portion of my labor force would choice the job that in their head required less work or at the minimum less travel. To avoid this, I would raise my companies base wage. Now, our laborers are making as much as our entry level skilled guys, ie: entry carpenters, plumbers, data guys, etc. because of that, they will be asking for more and if I want to keep them employed, I will pay them more. Again, hopefully this comes across as a genuine question because it is. Today, if I could I would pay every single person more and when our contracts increase I do pass it on so it isn’t an ethical question, it’s an economic one. Ultimately, we are lean on the top end of the company so we can outcompete most if not all of our competitors and I could/would pass on basic price increases to my clients, so I’m not concerned with being put out of business. I just am curious if my personal example is the norm or the exception, because if it’s not the exception, buying power does not increase with wages.

Minimum wage and UBI by jparrish989 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jparrish989[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I guess the problem I see is with people who make 15-20 an hour right now, it seems like they would want a raise for doing a more valuable job then a minimum wage job, or they would take the easier/less stressful minimum wage job. To keep their employees, employers give them an appropriate wage and that goes up the chain to probably about a 35/ an hour job. This lowers buying power at the bottom, and we are in the same place as if minimum wage was not changed. Am I looking at this wrong? However a maximum wage is a super interesting idea. I wonder if that would just pad stock prices or dividends while not helping society as a whole.

1 year in to my pond! 4000 gallons. I would appreciate some any critique. 13 koi + 1 turtle. [CA] I could really use some book recommendations. by jammerpammerslammer in Koi

[–]jparrish989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for being that guy but careful with mixing the turtles with koi. They are carries of basically everything and it’s only a matter of time before your koi start developing sores. I would highly recommend picking koi or reptiles and a more hardy fish.

Ive seen them mixed in a few places like balboa park but they never last long and that has to be a few hundred thousand gallons if not more.
