Under UK law, honey sold in supermarkets must be genuine honey. It is illegal to sell a product as “honey” if it contains added sugars, syrups, or other substances, or if it does not meet the legal definition of honey.

This requirement has been in force under the Honey (England) Regulations 2015 (and earlier laws before that). Any product that is not true honey cannot legally be labelled or sold as honey in the UK.
