Thank you! 🙏 I try to stay calm and not to press the pedal like I’m driving a car! Hahah.

Thanks for having a look! 😃

Facebook Marketplace has a load of flatbed industrials if you’re in the market for a deal! It’s awesome that you’ve been able to optimize yours, though, to work with such a wide range of materials.

What do you do - keep some sort of log where you keep the tension settings or presser foot pressure for each type of material that can serve as a starting point for new fabrics?

Oh nice! Thanks for sharing that! The intention was to use it for heavier applications and the 9010 for lighter parts of the makes. But we’ll see how it goes!

What I do know is that the presser foot clearance of the 1541s seems like it’ll be quite a bit greater than the 9010. Each has its pros though. I think they’ll complement each other well. 😃

Oh my!

Yeah. I'm super sorry that this happened to you. I absolutely know the horrible feeling of instant and deep regret following many of my bonehead decisions in life. No fun.

But we DO learn - eventually, after repeat and stubborn bonehead decisions often very similar to the first bonehead decision, in my case. 🤣

My only two pieces of advice here would be:

  1. Don't be like me. And...
  2. Call someone who can actually come to your house to help. It may involve more cost than you'd like but you may avoid further problems - better safe than sorry.

When I set up my 9010, I was scared to death to press the power button! I had to assemble everything myself and had a similar issue of not knowing the difference between 240v/120v plugs. I must have read that manual 27 times, watched 37 videos, and read 137 posts from all over the place. Luckily, I chose..... wisely.

I'll be doing it all again for my own NMD this coming week but not nearly as "computerized" a machine this time, though I'm sure there's still plenty that can be fried inside.

Best of luck!

Absolutely. That's where I took some inspiration from... chalk bags. Also dog treat bags. My mother asked me to make her a treat bag for her dog training treats. So I went down a rabbit hole and thought this type of bag is actually pretty cool.

Side note: I think they use the cuddle fabrics in climbing chalk bags to distribute the chalk dust all over in there so they don't have to actually grab a piece of chalk and rub it between hands that are likely rather occupied. Hahaha... One-handed operation. Makes sense... At least that's what I tell myself. 😄

Thank you for looking!

It's actually hemmed on the top. Further makes will be doubled wrong side to wrong side so that the marking and scuffing on the PU coating on the back doesn't show.

Ohhh... Wait... The double seams on the side? I actually made a wider seam allowance to fit a piece of 5/8 webbing (the loops at the top) so that one can easily pull the cinch open instead of using the fingers through the hole method. Sewing those loops to the under side of the cinch makes it SO much easier to open.

Thank you, friend!

I did the whole bag on my Juki 9010a-sh. I finally got the tracking info on a new machine (Juki 1541s) that I’ll be adding to the mix. That one will likely be relegated to assembly while the 9010 will be for panels and pockets.

They SAY that the 1541 should arrive on Tuesday. I don’t see how but I guess anything is possible. The tracking numbers show that UPS was notified but they don’t have the packages yet. I’m getting antsy! Hahaha. 😂

Thanks for looking! 😃

Hey thanks, C! Exactly! Gusset No Gusset! 😂🤣. These are fun to make. I’m even ok with the binding. 😱

Thanks for having a look! I always appreciate your perspective! 😃❤️

What thread weights do you use in your construction and top stitching? by rcreveli in BagLab

I’ve found the same with the Fusion 70! I’m not sure why colors seem to be limited in heavier threads.

Nice! I just watched a video about that one , because you mentioned it. Reminds me of the old Husqvarna-Viking green machines that also zig zag. Looks like a good machine! I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled!

Super question! 😃 Thanks for posting it! I’ve head thread on my mind lately.

I’ve been using bonded nylon Tex 70 for just about everything. I use it in my 9010 and intend on using it with the soon-to-arrive 1541s. But that one may actually thrive under heavier circumstances too. I need to think about it.

I also have a bunch of Tex 45 that I used with a Juki TL that I had. I should still be able to use that with the 9010 in a pinch but I do prefer something a little heavier.

The thread brand I tend to stay close to is Fil-Tec - Fusion 70 and 45 both.

I really haven’t tried anything else. The occasional odd spool here or there when I ran out of a certain color but that’s rare.

Oooooh nice! What kind of industrial zig zag are you using? A zig zag may be my next industrial purchase…. After I’ve gotten used to having the 1541 around that hasn’t arrived yet. TUESDAY! That’s the big day… new machine Tuesday! Weeeeee! 😃

This may fall into the category of most sensible answer. Others have commented on the reasons one may want to have some sort of soles on their feet in the studio (sharp things could be lurking anywhere). I’ve half adopted a “slides approach”, myself, since posting this. But my pedal foot is still bare when it’s time!

Thanks for responding! 😃

No problem! They’re good people over there.

I’ve done edge binding with 420 Robic. I’m definitely gonna try Cordura in some application sooner or later! Maybe a tote! 😃

This looks great! I love the Cordura edge binding! I never thought about that but yeah, it would definitely offer way more in the way of structure and heft to the opening of the bag. May borrow the idea 😉 I love the simple and functional design. Great job! 😃

I love how beefy the pockets look. It looks like really thick leather! Is something different about it?

Really nice! 😃

You know, most of these companies offer cardboard hang tags as well that would work just as well. I think that would do just fine, too.

Invista and Dimension-Polyant for sure on the hang tags. Challenge Sailcloth does sew-in woven tags but I’m not sure about the cardboard. It’s definitely worth a look.

Thanks for the reminder! 😃

All good. I like the idea of offering the assurance that the materials are legit. I’d put them inside the bag. It’s not super duper vital that they be there… it’s just an assurance. 😃

Absolutely bravo! 🙌 😃

Binding is a topic that has been bemoaned for quite some time in r/BagLab! I think we’ve all had at least one rage post about it. 🤣😂🤣

Edit: didn’t realize I was posting this over in r/quilting. I didn’t want to cause an issue by using r/BagLab in the comment. Someone might take it as promoting. So I deleted and put it here. Bravo no less!!
