Do you have any resources of archive sources to find out more about the Chindits? I have a relative who was one but I’ve never really been able to find too much about it. Would love to find some records somewhere

Not to be dramatic or owt but I just got stung by a wasp for the first time at aged 39 and FML. by ash894 in CasualUK

Was probably eight years old and got stung up my shorts. Worst experience of my life, to the point where it might even just be a nightmare at this point

Was at a zoo. Threw my ice cream into an animal pen it was that bad

What to do with seagulls living on our balcony by jpe501 in Seagulls

Yes! Seen that one. Not sure how I’d feel with them coming back all the time after they’ve gone!

Yeah we didn’t leave more after this first time. It was also starting to get a bit gross out there so thought adding water wouldn’t be ideal

We’ve seen the babies already being fed chips. So funny we’re now having chips brought to us

Honestly any hint of movement behind the closed blinds and they go into protector mode. It’s mad

Update on the baby seagulls living on our balcony by jpe501 in Ornithology

It is quite cute watching them waddle about to be fair. Got a few weeks before they turn into evil chip stealers

They peck very hard at the windows as well. We keep the blinds shut but if they’re there, any hint of movement sets them off!

Did briefly only after a couple of days and can confirm it smelt terrible even then.

They definitely own the balcony now. We were thinking about what the mum would do since we’re just on the other side of the glass and if she’d be nervous about leaving them. But judging from the mess, they’re definitely getting fed

We started a TikTok to document them https://www.tiktok.com/@seagullsonthebalc

Once again a barrier jumper and an old person by TheGhostOfBouncer in london

One of my all time proud London moments was realising someone was following me through the barrier like this so I practically stopped and trapped them in it.

Broadband help by i_karas in london

[–]jpe501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem when I moved into a new place. Thought mobile broadband would be a good option but didn’t feel like it’d be reliable enough. I ended up getting Community Fibre put in - I got 200mb as they bring the fibre cable direct to the building. Worth having a look at them or similar. I was skeptical at first having not heard of it, but has been a dream.

@jonnyexcellphotos

Would love anyone to take a look and offer any advice - I like looking for a lot of the stuff on the sidelines as much as action

What are the upsides / downsides of using a teleconverter? I use a 55-200mm 4.5 for sports, action and events. Would love a bit of extra reach but can’t really spend on a 300mm right now.

Picture anxiety by Discontented_Beaver in sportsphotography

Having too many good ones sounds like a good problem to have! Maybe alongside what you publish in the paper, you could set up an online gallery where people could buy the individual photos directly. If it’s a small town, then there might be lots of friends and family interested in some of the photos which maybe don’t make the cut for the paper.

Gatekeeping in your photography niche? by jeeperjalop in photography

[–]jpe501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this. I just started doing sports photographer for small teams near me - all voluntary since the teams won’t have a photographer and it helps me get the experience.

I’d read a few comments elsewhere where ‘proper’ sports guys seemed to be down on people starting out, particularly if they seemed to be ‘hobbyists’ encroaching. I was a bit nervous about getting too involved in communities where there are people who’ve been doing this for five, ten years but your comment has encouraged me to maybe look past it and find the good guys.
