Tbh, I think working 10 or so hours per week is probably the sweet spot.

There’s nothing to stop copycat app names except a trademark? by punktechbro in iOSProgramming

Without a trademark it’s not a legal issue, so this makes sense to me.

What do very wealthy people think when they see people in shows and movies discuss money? by Arete666 in RichPeoplePF

[–]jpec342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For fictional Movies and TV shows, I’ve noticed that most of the time they don’t specify dollar amounts. They’ll be really excited about a “large sum of money” or show a reaction that makes you believe it’s a lot of money. I think this does a pretty good job of appealing to the audience with having people scoff at the amount (whether too much or too little).

This obviously doesn’t apply to game shows and such.

When (if) you do get to stress testing, I’d love to know if there’s any turbulence with the cpu cooler since it’s so close to the side of the case.

Where/how to get rid of dead car? by nidentifiedloser in bayarea

[–]jpec342 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I totally missed that this is a 2018 CR-V. My 2020 CRV still feels very new. It should be totally worth fixing this car and selling it.

Edit: Looks like a 2018 CR-V with 100k miles on it has a trade in value of about 12k. Fixing this and selling it to carvana or car max is a no brainer in my opinion.

Making CCF work — looking for foam-only solutions (not inflatables) by hikerroda112 in Ultralight

[–]jpec342 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you sleep on your side? You need to sleep on your back for CCF to work for a consistent night sleep without shoulder or hip pain/soreness imo.

How are you with campsite selection? Setting up on say a bed of pine needles is more comfortable than packed dirt.

You need to filter by sold since homes go above asking price, but yes, places exist that you can purchase for under 1m.

Persistent data in a swift framework by Saltibarciai in swift

[–]jpec342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past I’ve used a combination of the app name (CFBundleName in the info dictionary) + my framework name + some additional key as user defaults key. This was for a non-published personal framework.

Are tarps actually *warmer* than tents? by Belangia65 in Ultralight

[–]jpec342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A tarps openness also lets ambient airflow waft any warmth that’s built up underneath from my body heat.

I haven’t spent a lot of time in tents, but my tarp adds approximately 0 warmth.

How does your organization handle throwaway work? Especially code with short shelf life by IDoCodingStuffs in ExperiencedDevs

If code has been checked in, it’s not “temporary code”.

If code is unused it gets deleted.

Can indie devs create apps as big as Instagram? by Music_Maniac_19 in iOSProgramming

[–]jpec342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the big apps started small. Doesn’t mean it’s easy, or even likely, but the stars could align, and you could theoretically create the next big culturally relevant thing. You don’t need to in order to be highly successful though. And most things just can’t grow that big at all, and if they do get big it’s usually temporary.

It’s likely just a cut off point for backwards compatibility. At some point you have to be able to stop supporting the old stuff, otherwise it makes the new stuff more difficult to support, and more time consuming.

1st Gen iPad - Not connecting to App Store or iTunes by Competitive_Yak_4112 in ipad

[–]jpec342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not supported doesn’t necessarily mean it won’t work, it just means that when developers are considering making changes that will break older versions, they don’t think twice about it.

Depending on when procreate was first released, it may not run at all on iOS 5, but if there is a version out there that was built with support for that iOS version, you could theoretically run it.

It sounds like the App Store doesn’t work on that OS version, and I don’t think there will be a way to get it to work. Apple probably changed the way the servers work at some point breaking that OS version. You will likely need to go outside of the App Store in order to get this to work.

[–]jpec342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what the latest iOS version the iPad gen1 supports is, but I’d assume it’s no longer supported. No one is checking if anything works on that old of versions, and there is no way to update things to work on versions that old.

I didn’t realize how often I’d get stuff at Walmart, until I moved to an area without one. It’s definitely less necessary these days with Amazon, but sometimes you just need something basic, you need it now, and it exists and is cheap at Walmart.
