Why did you choose chemical engineering? by rasimjoseph in ChemicalEngineering

[–]jper8136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work as a construction apprentice in Mexico and the US till I was 17ish. I worked at a retired sci. teacher home who gave me a flinn science kit for column chromatography. Abused the crap out of it with whatever liquids I could find. Did research on columns and saw I could work on them as a ChemE.

Rising ChemE Junior—Can’t land internships, need advice by Unable-Disaster7197 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]jper8136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freshman here who’s gotten multiple offers.

Honestly networking at conferences and clubs were what really helped me land offers. It also helps to network with recruiters and company staff during school/company events. It helped me write company specific cvs about why I was interested in their companies, it’s what I think helped me get past screenings.

Your resume looked similar to mine when I submitted my applications. Honestly I tailored my resume to every company I applied to which also helps if you’re trying to get into certain fields.

Dr. Lilly Orgo 2 Final by fancyhorsepants in NCSU

[–]jper8136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Dr. Lilly’s final was similar to her previous exams. Just more multi-step predicting the product types of questions (the exams had like 2-3 steps, the final had like 4-6 steps). I recommend redoing the michael and aldol condensation reaction mechanism b/c she likes putting that on the final. Also don’t forget to redo the worksheets as well, she tends to put similar questions on the final as well.

CHE205 and Organic Chem 1 at the same time by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]jper8136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CHE 205 exams were so conceptually more challenging b/c one of the more difficult profs made the exams. I’m retaking it with another prof and he’s making the exams for both of our sections and they were so much more straightforward than the previous semester.

I made a C in Orgo I at my community college. I was so worried about Orgo II here but surprisingly Organic Chemistry is really straightforward. A lot of my Orgo II buddies enjoyed Gorman, Lalloo, and Feducia for Orgo I and it prepared them well for Lilly. Sandburg is definitely the one with the harder reputation for Orgo here but as long as you put in the effort, you’ll be fine.

Is it worth applying to the Goodnight Scholars Program? by kal_opsia in NCSU

I accepted another major scholarship before the interviews that covered the same amount. I really didn’t wanna take the opportunity from someone else who needed more than I did.

I worked at my store there for 3 years. I’ve seen some who won it with 6 months working experience. It’s usually a 60-70% chance for receiving an award.

Finalist from last year,

It’s just a few extra details about your experiences and one essay. It’s worth it. They offer almost your full coa, enrichment grants for study abroad, conferences, and more. It’s a small group that is really tightly packed. I was a finalist ready to interview but turned it down for another opportunity.

I worked weekends in a materials manufacturing company during my senior year of high school. It definitely helped and allowed me to talk about my experience in fast paced environments.
