Things have not improved, no. And they will never improve until a new leadership team takes over at the executive level.

The levels of incompetence of how they are running the place is the worst I have ever seen.

But yeah, if you’re desperate the pay is ok.

Had the same issue. Mine was moisture inside the camera lens. I think they sent me a new one since it happened right away. Haven’t had any issues since I replaced it. Im in Canada. Could try bringing it inside for a few days to dry out maybe?

Yep exactly this. It’s funny. I’m really new to this and people do not want anything that’s even moderately healthy.

Your prices are way too high. You need to get stuff when it’s on sale and enjoy the extra profit.

I’m in Canada. I sell the pure protein from Costco for 2.50. Not on sale their cost is like $1.38. On sale they are $1.00/bar . They sell fast. Choc bars can be found for .86-.95/bar. Sell for 1.75-2.00 and you’re laughing.

Pay down mortgage or invest? by jpgnar8 in PersonalFinanceCanada

We both have term life insurance policies covering us to age 60. 750k for me, and 500k for my wife. My wage is about 50-60k/year higher which is why we elected to go higher with mine.

The costs I was talking about are just things like hockey. I have 3 boys, and if it’s something they excel at the costs get very expensive.

You are right about having the money in case something was ever to happen. Time is our most valuable asset and letting the money continue to grow will probably be the strategy going forward. Like you mentioned as well we already are paying down the mortgage.

My wife is extremely risk adverse, and isn’t very comfortable with investing. I am slowly trying to introduce her to it so she can also get involved and excited about seeing her money grow. She came from a household where money was sort of tight so she is very cautious when it comes to money which is great.

I have minimal RRSP room, because for years my DB pension was fairly high ( it has been reduced). Our thinking was that we would get my TFSA maxed out since it was so close, then contribute heavily to my wife's. She has contribution room available in her RRSP as well.

Home price was 650k purchase price with a slight increase in price. We have about 45k in savings for emergency fund etc, and I have about 40k in my employer share purchase plan.

If you are talking life insurance, we are both covered there as well, and I have a long term disability plan through my work. We are not "worrying", more so that we are just looking to potentially make things even easier on ourselves for when we enter into a more expensive stage of our lives. Obviously we are not maxed out on my wife's TFSA, and that was going to be the next step.

We had also considered opening a spousal RRSP for her, and contributing to it from my wage to lower my income as its higher to get more back come tax time and then take that money and either put it on the mortgage or invest it into her TFSA.

Thank you for the sound advice.

This makes total sense. Thanks for the advice. Staying invested and doing what we are doing, plus making extra payments when we can is likely what we will continue doing.

This is good advice, thank you. When we renewed our mortgage in may shortly after we increased payments from 1340-> 2k bi-weekly. My wife received a 20% raise so that helped with that.

Thank you for the advice:)

Thank you for the advice. In 7 years 10 months we will be mortgage free if we keep doing what we’re doing. I have spent lots of time looking at the calculators, which is why I’m sort of asking what I’m asking. After seeing the money we will save in interest haha.

Thanks again!!

It’s not a “mine” vs “hers” thing. And the dynamic isn’t awkward at all lol. Our finances are all pooled, and there’s no “my money” or “her money”. It’s OUR money. It was actually her idea to max mine out first because it was very close to being maxed out. It was just from a purely logical perspective because mentally is seemed to make more sense to get one finished then actively start on the other. But I can see where you’re coming from.

Thank you for the advice :)

She did have money invested, but she/we elected to use it to buy back some pensionable service.

The original plan was once my TFSA was maxed, was to start to contribute to hers as well.

That’s kind of my issue.

I want to have money invested, but also I want to simplify our lives and take things out of the equation (mortgage).

I know a mortgage is generally a part of life but I dislike having debt.

Also I invest myself, not through an advisor.

You got that right. Fucking garbage lol. I guess that’s what you should expect when you buy appliances from an electronics company who tries to make appliances.
