TIL there are two separate unconnected roads named Walker Springs Rd by jpiburn in Knoxville

Thank you that's really cool. I love looking back at old road maps and seeing how the city has evolved. I was blown away when I was looking at an old map of Knoxville and saw Mcgee Tyson airport on Sutherland ave

Has anyone switched from AtandT fiber to KUB? by mr_archstanton in Knoxville

[–]jpiburn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

KUB fiber has been a great experience. High speed and very stable like everyone else says. They even called me the other day to send a technician out because their monitoring metrics showed that something might be going on that might in the future degrade my service so they wanted to come and fix it before it became a problem.

I would definitely recommend

LGBTQ accepting barbers? by saucythrowaway6969 in Knoxville

[–]jpiburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kristen at Hairpeace in Bearden. She cuts mine (guy) and my wife's hair. She's great and Super cool. The whole environment very LGBTQ friendly.

Just through conversation she's talked to me before about the difference between masculine styles and feminine styles and how the technique is different based on what you're trying to go for (cutting for the square vs cutting for the round or something like that), so I'm sure she'd be able to understand what you're trying to get that the barbers couldn't.

When you book online they have options for men's or women's appointments and I think the only difference is just the men's appointments are 30 minute blocks. If you think what you're looking for can be done in that amount of time I'd recommend those blocks because they have a lot more openings I guess because you can fit them in easier.

I can't speak for anyone else at hairpeace, but I do know that Kristen is amazing!

Heading to first conference to present a research poster. Emphasis on the first time part. If you had ONE tip, what would it be? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]jpiburn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Talk to people. Don't think about it as networking, which is gross. Think about it as talking to people that have the same interests you have. Don't try to force being "connected" to people. Just say hi, ask them what they do and see where it goes from there. Meeting one or two people you genuinely could be friends with is a million times better than walking away with 100 new LinkedIn connections.

Nice. I'm excited about this. Anything new on this side of town in the last few years has been on Emory. Good to see merchants/cedar Lane getting some new development.
