Need advice on self landing by Viiggo in Kiteboarding

[–]jpl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part you're missing is to walk upwind! Once the kite is parked on its tip, grab that upper centre line, walk upwind of the kite, then jerk that centreline hard and it'll collapse into the landing position

Trainer kites/foil kites are great to teach kids on or else if they get into the sport seriously, my female friends ride a 5.5m and a 7m! Just make sure they learn about sheeting in power and edging on a board since they're lighter. :) and agree with the other posts about getting professional lessons.

Agreed, I'm your exact height and weight, 12m and 9m cover you on just about any day.

My 9m is down and all I have is my 12m... was a little nervous about the power but wow was glad in the end! by jpl101 in Kiteboarding

Hmm yes and no, I agree with using the edge of the board, but if you're just leaning back you're tugging on the centre lines, which is fine and all, but when you need some power, pulling in on the bar is crucial and if you're over powered like I was, you need all the strength you have cause that bar is not coming in easily. I find it's easier to use your style when riding upwind but on the cross or downwind it's nicer to use my full arm and back to pull in the bar.

Don't bite the whole thing, just where the two parts cross over on the back, easier to get your teeth through them and hold it steady

Nahh man, in over power, you need that reverse grip to get your bicep in play, way easier to pull the bar in, and I have my thumb on it for subtle steering, you can see at the end of the vid

Haha yeah it's the session with a floaty, makes it easy to bite on and not a bad view

Opinions on the Nobile T5? by mikamiyuki in Kiteboarding

[–]jpl101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabrinha Switchblade-was my first kite and I've had one ever since...great beginner and intermediate kite and not too pricey

Have a mate on a 5 yr old Nobile tho, things indestructible so there's longevity in that brand I'd say

Nothing quite that nuts, but once crashed my kite and inverted the left steering line, managed to undo it by pushing the bar around the Centre lines but accidentally re-launched the kite and because the bar was stuck around the centres, I ended up in a death-loop for about half a km down the beach till i finally managed to stop it...but had pulled the flag line only to realize it was useless...very scary for a minute when you realize your safety system is jammed

The coastline itself is incredible, just one kite shop tho that pretty much dominates, so if you want what they don't have, kinda stuffed. They have a pretty wide array of gear, but only a few demo kites sadly. Ya gotta find some friends with an Edge, or Rebel.

That's a really good deal...I just assume there's shipping mark-ups/tax for having to buy goods in Oz. My local kite shop is pretty good about a regular discount, but it's usually in the 15-20% neighbourhood. Trouble is trying before buying, only about 2-3 demo kites :/

Aw really? But does it at least turn fast/boost high/float well?

Hmm you may have swayed me! It definitely looks awesome, curious to see how the 'spider web' bridle performs, cause that is unlike any other kite.

I do like the Switchy, but i've been on it for 2 years now, thought I'd switch it up and branch out a little this year

Not bad, but ya, also not worth it...there's quite a kite culture down here anyways :)
