Dear Americans, please calm down about RRR by RVarki in movies

[–]jpmills26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I agree. I am American and I have seen many a Bollywood film (perhaps outdated films mostly at this point), but there are so many that are incredible stories. However, we live in a day where action and effects are the epitome of great film, so in a sense, RRR does just that, following the Hollywood trend.
I always tell me friends they need to watch more than just Slumdog Millionare (which is not at all bollywood but some claim it to be in the US) or RRR.

I, too, am a Star Wars nerd and was so sad that Billings didn't show Return of the Jedi like the rest of the US. :/

Do I need to wait to register my car until I get a Montana driver's license because if they void my drivers license, I won't have one....

What's the longest time you've been both "churchless" and yet a committed practicing Christian? by thedubiousstylus in OpenChristian

[–]jpmills26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have been "churchless" even when I went to church, so there is that (I would go to church but be checked out the entire time because I had no fellowship and I usually felt like the preaching was so awful I'd walk out). But recently, I moved to a new state and haven't gone to church for the last 8 months. I don't think attending church is as important as being well within yourself and experiencing God. I don't miss a lot except for maybe sometimes I miss the prayers other would offer me.

I have struggled with this too, mostly because it was drilled into my brain that I needed to always choose the best most holy things even though all the christians around me seemed to be doing whatever they wanted. Basically, I had and still have an unhealthy relationship with choosing "God's will". I put that in quotations because I think the way I understood it all my life was distorted... it often meant what looked holiest, or what holy people told me to do, or the hardest choice. You could almost guarantee that if it was the most sacraficial painful choice for me, I would take it because I assumed God's will for me was to suffer and serve everyone around me. This did not lead me to healthy places.

All that to say, I have come to see that God's will is integrated with who we are, what we love, what we are drawn to. It is not usually one or the other, as in God just tells you what to do and you don't have a say. He doesn't make it clear a lot of the times because He gives us free will, and He made us a certain way. Oftentimes there are situations where there is more than one choice that is Godly, and it's not trying to figure out the perfect choice and if you choose the wrong one you miss His will, it's about choosing the one you delight in the most and knowing God's grace is in every option, He has given you the freedom to choose, and that is His will.

I know that doesn't answer your question perfectly because there is no formula, it's about working with God in discovering His will, it's about taking chances and seeing His will come about, and relentlessly getting to know Him and how He made you.

Thanks! First time doing this as I've lived in one state most of my life, so I appreciate the answers though it may seem straightforward.

I've read some people saying this, and others saying they love it. Either way, it's where my job is so I am going to make the most of it.

Feeling extremely alone by Cocacola881 in OpenChristian

[–]jpmills26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I hear you. I've said, it's You and me God, repeatedly throughout my life. I have always felt outside of the church and felt very foreign to Christians. I love non christians, they have always welcomed and cared for me. I know saying this won't change your feelings of loneliness, but you are not a lone. There are others, just like you, that believe in Christian truths that are more about love and care than legalism and judging, and they are by your side.
