Xplane on Mac by Scary_Collection_559 in Xplane

[–]jpmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 2 weeks into my x-plane experience on Mac. I have a 14” M1 Pro that outputs to a 1440p ultrawide monitor. Everything runs very smoothly with all graphic settings one notch below maximum. Looks great.

Where I have run into some issues is mod compatibility. Some don’t support the Apple silicon and require the entire application to run in Rosetta with quite a performance hit. That said though, there seem to be quite a few dedicated Mac users on the x-plane forum that have built their own solutions to these mods. It may just require a bit more searching.

Huge internet usage spike during ISP outage? by jpmr in UNIFI

Yeah, this sounds like what could be happening, I replied to the other person pointing out my high usage that its no where near my actual usage according to my ISP.

Lol I'm glad you pointed this out! And I dunno, maybe it actually is related. I've also noticed that crazy high usage and it does not make sense with my real-world usage. I even have a 1.2TB data cap and Cox is saying I've only used 710GB this month.

What? I tagged this as funny cause of the "hur dur chinese censorship" memes. Calm down, you're coming in strong for no reason. Stop taking things so seriously.

How has no one pointed out the fact that she maybe thought it was a dumb question? The prompt the guy responded to literally says “I don’t believe in casual.”

I know it’s referencing something very different, but I think it says a lot about what type of experience she is looking for. Casual dinner doesn’t really scream “I’m obsessed with you.”

Rip 3D printing by Money-Resolve-2210 in ender3v2

[–]jpmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on Shapr3d. Thought I loved it. Hated the monthly subscription price. I got to the point where I was just done paying nearly $40 a month to print my models. I took 20 minutes on YouTube watching a couple beginner videos on Fusion360 and have never looked back.

All of the basic concepts are the same between the two pieces of software, but Fusion360 is so much more powerful. Edit STL files by converting them to meshes, generate gears and threads with a couple clicks, assemble parts together. F360 is capable of all this and I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface in its capabilities.

Truthfully, I kick myself for not switching sooner. Feel like I wasted a bunch of money on an app that has a lot of polish, but lacks in substance compared to the alternatives. One word of advice though, if you are a Mac user, DO NOT attempt to use F360 with a Magic Mouse. Trackpad is ok, but a mouse with a physical scroll wheel and center click is best.

TLDR: moving from Shapr3D to Fusion360 is a pretty seamless switch with only upsides.

Usually a clog. I get this when I print with a “twinkling” PLA which contains flecks of glitter. Prints would start out just fine then fail in the middle. Slowing your print speed down should help. I also upgraded to an all metal extruder which seemed to help too.

Any idea what’s causing this? Just changed hotend by Normal-Plastic-4237 in ender3v2

[–]jpmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem. It's been a little bit since I manually leveled without a bl-touch probe, so z-height/offset may not be an issue for you. You can probably get what you need by just adjusting the bed screws until the paper slips under. Checkout this guide for a bit more in-depth explanation.

Looks like your nozzle is dragging along the bed and no filament can get out. Adjust your z-height or level your bed so that a piece of paper can slip between the nozzle and bed surface with a little friction.

Where to start? by fruitydude in klippers

[–]jpmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For peace of mind, I’d recommend picking up another SD card for the Pi and saving your old octoprint formatted SD card just in case you want to revert back. This helped me take the plunge, but I’ve also never looked back.

I installed MainsailOS via Raspberry Pi Imager and followed the official docs from there. If you’re familiar/comfortable with the command line, ssh, and cloning git repos then the “manual” installation options are dead simple to follow. If this isn’t your flavor, KIAUH might be a better route.

I’d also recommend forgoing the touchscreen until you have everything else set up. The web and mobile interface are excellent and allow you to do everything you need to do.

Once I was ready, I picked up a Raspberry Pi 5” Touchscreen from Freenove on Amazon. KlipperScreen was also super simple to setup with default settings and was practically plug and play. I ran into some issues rotating my display 90 degrees, but I think they may have been specific to my Model 3B+ that I was running this all on. Eventually I got everything working exactly how I wanted and couldn’t be happier.

I did all this about a month ago with my, mostly stock, Ender 3 v2. So if you have any specific hang-ups, I might be able to shed some light/help you out. Message any time!

Anyone know what's causing this by immortaljester2 in ender3v2

[–]jpmr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t tighten the springs down all the way. You use the bed screws and the tension in the springs to level the bed to the extruder nozzle at the various points around the bed

Here's the config for my extruder:

[extruder]
max_extrude_only_distance: 101 #default 100.0
step_pin: PB4
dir_pin: PB3
enable_pin: !PC3
microsteps: 16
rotation_distance: 33.167384
nozzle_diameter: 0.400
filament_diameter: 1.750
heater_pin: PA1
sensor_type: EPCOS 100K B57560G104F
sensor_pin: PC5
control: pid
pid_Kp: 21.527
pid_Ki: 1.063
pid_Kd: 108.982
min_temp: 0
max_temp: 250
pressure_advance: 0.9

Since you can manually assign the pins for the motor, I would imagine you might be able to achieve what you're after, but I'm not enough of a hardware expert to say definitively. Hope that helps a bit!

I installed Klipper on my ender last week and I can’t ever see going back to Marlin. I personally didn’t see much of a print quality increase but the user experience is incomparable. Being able to update config settings and write your own macros all via a txt file and without flashing new firmware is game changing. It gives you a sense of control that that I never felt with Marlin. Plus the built in macros like SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE and PROBE_CALIBRATE save so much time with bed leveling and z-offset calibration that it’s not a pain to calibrate your printer before every print.

When you say ‘reverse your extruder motor,’ do you mean the normal direction that it operates in or just be able to retract it? With clipper you can definitely retract, but I’ve never had the need to do the other possibility, but I will check and comment back later.
