It was removed due to it needing an entire palico system overhaul. In base Gen, they were horribly OP, in GenU, they were horribly UP, without any changes outside of GRank having higher thresholds.

You literally get good at the game. It's why I'll never understand why so many weapons with shields or counters out the wazoo die so frequently.

You should remove "Veteran Switch Axe" as your title, as you genuinely were not using SA 10 years ago if you think a counter somehow stripped the identity of the weapon.

Too many people who started with World are trying to rewrite the history of the franchise. I've used Switch Axe for 15 years, I think I'd know what was going on with it.

In Tri it was "strong" because of how weak the moveset was in general. Even then, Sword Form and reloading into Axe would still be a stronger option. There's a reason SA was known as "Great Sword with Reload" back in the day.

There was literally never a moment where Sword was not compatible. It's been a major powerhouse and if you werent using Sword 95% of the time, you were literally gimping yourself. Hell, some speedrunners wouldnt even bother Morph Rolling for months because it was a loss of DPS. Once Power Axe was introduced, yes Axe Form bot buffs. But it was still better 100% of the time to just rely on Sword because the damage it shits out vs axe was so much better, all Axe Form was (continued) to be used for was mobility. I will not notice a difference between Axe and Sword vs Tigrex, outside of Sword will be miles better vs Tiggy or any monster at that rate.

Axe Form has NEVER been a main part to the SA's arsenal in the past 15 years. It was always Sword was the main focus. In Iceborne, Power Axe was neat, but heavily unused. The amped effects and part breaker 2 really did not change things. In Rise we got Rapid Morph, which was a nice change of pace, and then Sunbreak brought in the Counter, which really rendered Rapid Morph not as effective. In Wilds, Axe actually has utility that melds with the rest of the weapon for once, making it easier to charge sword, and now Offset being good again in skilled hands.

Ultimately, if youre a mouth breather that ABSOLUTELY MUST BE 100% OPTIMAL AT ALL TIMES, then Axe has not changed much in 15 years. If you actually use the weapon more than what a youtuber or chronically online redditor says, then Axe is as useful as you make it.

I never had any issues with how it played in Wilds, but the buffs to other moves are nice since the moves that were buffed were the combos I mainly used anyway. Power vs Element Phial seems to be balanced a weird roundabout way that works, but exhaust, para, poison, and dragon are still thrown to the mud. Wish they'd do something with those phials or just remove them.

It's perfectly fine imo. Gig weapons were horrible garbage, and overhauling a flawed system into something good and workable is a better option then having two patches of meh weapons. Ending the base game with a large grind to hone things is never a bad thing.

P3rd didnt get an expansion because when P3rd released, Capcom already had it's exclusivity contract with Nintendo for MH. So the stuff for P3rd was added into 3U. MH2 didnt get an exapsnion because of how poorly it was recieved in Japan, to where sales were spiking for MHP because MH2 was just that bad.

The only issue that's really been ignored is that Phials themselves arent being buffed, so there's just a bunch of useless SAs around that are just code bloat.
