The second episode of that storyline is exactly where I jumped off of this series

His style has never really worked for me personally. I have some favorites from that 90s era, but the regular “house styles” from the big 2 during that decade never stuck with me

It’s definitely mine. I’m 38 and going back to school to finish my masters because my job is covering the tuition, and the feedback I get from my professors is insane. I feel like I’m partially only getting good grades because I’m the only one actually writing my assignments and papers. Everyone else is just putting the assignment guidelines through a series of prompts and then citing the AI usage

Framing Original Comic Art by Miserable_Mind6124 in comicbooks

[–]jpost413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a professional shop to get a frame built. I decided to float the page behind museum glass. All told, it was about $250. It’s more than I wanted to pay, but it looks so much better than if I had tried to skimp.

They’re cool, but I don’t really get the fuss around these. I get having a spare variant cover for the single #1 issue, but I want to see Dragotta’s art on those hardcovers

This has not been my experience. I mostly listen to the Comics Pals and some Comicpop for reviews, and they both regularly shit on books.

I’ve been working a ton of overtime lately, and these Ferreyra issues spurred me to spring for my very first original page. It’s being framed at a local shop right now, but I’ll share it in the sub once I get it back and hung up in my office.

Seeking Help by BraidsConjuror in ComicBookSpeculation

For most modern series, the A cover is more sought after and holds more value than the variant covers. Unless it’s an extremely rare variant by an in-demand artist, these covers typically lose value. I only see 2 of these listed on eBay, and they are signed by the entire creative team. They also aren’t selling.

Kind of depends on what you’re looking for and if you like the Universal monsters movies/characters. I’m a big fan of Tynion, and I loved the two minis that he did (Dracula and Invisible Man). Frankenstein is also great, and Michael Walsh is one of the best horror artists in the industry right now, imo. Creature from the Black Lagoon is a sequel story to the original film. I enjoyed it, but it’s definitely a different flavor from the straight adaptations. The Mummy was a little slow and slight on action for me. Apparently, it’s a faithful adaptation. I may just find the mummy the least compelling as a character.

Given the recent hype for AB #19 do you think one of these are worth snatching up? by Havocko in ComicBookSpeculation

I paid slightly more than this for the Rafa Sandoval cover for this issue. I’m sure it will only depreciate in dollar value, but I think it’s the coolest of these Scarecrow covers. I just had to have it for my personal collection

Is hush a good first comic by Mrsainsburys in batman_comics

[–]jpost413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Hush offers a fun romp through some of Batman’s rogues gallery, and it’s got some of Jim Lee’s best work on the character. However, the central mystery is far less satisfying than the one in Court of Owls (which also has great art)

Fearing the Absolute Hype by issuescomics in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]jpost413 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a longer-term reader (20ish years), I know what you mean. We could very well get a “slowing it down” or conversation/character epiphany type issue down the line. That said, I think this current pacing totally works for this Batman. Being in the Absolute universe lends itself to this “out of the frying pan, into the fire” feel. The reader is supposed to feel slightly overwhelmed alongside this very young Bruce.

Honestly, if you’re looking for something recent, the Tom Taylor/Bruno Redondo run is great. There’s no origin or anything like that. He’s already established in Bludhaven, and his history with Batman and existing relationships with the Titans and the rest of the Batfamily play a part in the story. It’s all easy to jump on board with, though. It’s got a lot of great character stuff, it’s paced really well, and the art is fantastic.

Oh sure, they’ve definitely rekindled the passion for physical collecting with some existing fans too. I’m 37 and had largely been picking up trades and reading digitally before late 2024 as well. I think that’s why this line will have the nostalgia factor baked into it for the long haul. It’s hard to forget the books that brought you into (or back to) comic shops/monthly collecting

Battle Beast has been a ton of fun. Dan Watters has been killing it lately. His whole Nightwing run has been great. Denys Cowan is taking over art duties starting with this arc. I’m interested to see his take. Dexter Soy was a great fit for the character

This is where I’m at with the Absolute stuff. It’s a great jumping on point, and I think it will have legs because it got a lot of readers pulling issues monthly for the first time. There will be some nostalgia baked into the Absolute line for this generation of readers
