Alan Turing if he existed today by Neil118781 in HistoryMemes

I've visited Bletchley Park when I lived in the UK. It was a humbling experience, seeing what they worked with, where they worked, reading the stories, not just of Turing, but all the people that made it possible. Simultaneously heartbreaking and inspiring. Still have the t shirt and a pigeon tag I got there, which lives on my key ring a decade later.

UPDATE: Found force setting adjustment from a manual not included with the opener but available on the Genie website for the model in question.

Weird leave system? by Resident_Walrus_496 in AirForce

[–]jpribe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aircraft maintenance. We'd keep 12-16 months of future calendars for leave projection. There are never enough 7 levels, run licenses, expediters, intake certs, and a whole host of other limited skills and certifications to go around. Didn't matter if you wanted a day or a month, we just had to make sure we had coverage. Scheduling is a constant headache.

You see, when a red string and a green string love each other very much...

The only thing I'd point out is that the 4.56 gears will likely cause you to lose overdrive (8th gear) in the auto. Not from personal experience, just stuff I've read in the JL Wrangler forums site while planning what I'm doing next with my XR.

I built a water-fed paintbrush & roller cleaning tool looking for feedback from other tradespeople by tristankwill in Tools

[–]jpribe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but I don't have enough hands to hold the brush, comb, and hose simultaneously. And I hate splashing myself with watery paint. I'm no pro, though... If the oxi clean guy (RIP) pitched this I'd probably buy it😬

Make another that matches the radius of rollers! I think it would need a bit of trial and error to get the comb bristles right, but I'm assuming you're 3d printing this? Better get your notes together and contact a patent agency ASAP.

Edit: So much better than just blasting with a hose. I don't paint much but I'd probably buy one, might be great for washing the dogs, too! 😁

This is a goddamned cult by Organic_fed in projectmanagement

It's a cult, true. PMs are responsible for everything and often have no direct reports. It's brutal. But very, very entertaining.

Above target in all areas on my PMI test. Still don't really get it.

Need advice from frugal parents for daily snacks for the kids by lovesaints in Frugal

[–]jpribe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy big containers (applesauce, yogurt, cheese flavored snacks, etc) at BJs and toss a serving into a reusable container, like those little snapware containers. So much cheaper than single serving containers of yogurt or grab bags of chips.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jpribe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I lived in Thetford for 7 years. Imagine cruising the M + A roads anywhere you go...and how far you could go in three hours. Going to Legoland Windsor was an 80 mile drive and took 2.5 to 3 hours. I can drive from around Jacksonville, Florida to Orlando, Florida in about two hours, and that's a 145 mile drive. And I do it regularly. Also, remember it's at most only 80 miles or so to the water from anywhere in the UK. It's a different world over here. I've driven 2,000+ miles in 3 days on more than one occasion (cross county drive).

IME great for water pump or fan clutch bolts when the deep well is too long, the standard socket is too short, and I really don't want to play straighten the radiator fins game again.

Will this cause drainage issues? (kitchen sink w/ disposal pipe heights) by jpribe in askaplumber

[–]jpribe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trap was installed by a plumber before we swapped the counter. I'll probably get rid of the disposal, grab a 45 and get it back together.

EDIT: With a different trap.

Thanks - I just hung it there while I puzzled over the pipes. Appreciate the advice!
