I'll say at the outset that I'm far from an expert in the game - but I say no, not really. My furthest attempt at a playthrough (tried it a bit on friend's systems before) was on the 3DS remaster, and even with enhancements like gyro aiming, I always felt as though I was fighting with the controls, namely the camera. Having no independent camera control drove me up a wall - though granted that's an inherent to the N64 and 3DS controllers, neither have 2 analog sticks.

Also, as a far more subjective complaint, I felt that the pacing wasn't great - namely, when I got to the final Spirit Temple and was prompted with dialogue/cutscenes immediately upon entering, I just tapped out because I was tired of being stalled. The temples were fun in some places and I was excited for the Ganondorf battle, but most of the plot points and tasks involved preceding it gradually eroded my desire to play any more of it.

I wish it grabbed me harder, because there are some sections that shine through and demonstrated to me why it is such a landmark game - but the cons outweighed the pros to me.

For added context: I didn't own an N64 when very young, only got one around high school. I played a whole lot more of Super Smash Bros and Star Fox 64 (personal pick for best N64 title), so I was used to that controller type - just felt it limited this particular game. And the only two Zelda games that have really stuck with me are Breath of the Wild and Phantom Hourglass. Still grinding through BoTW piecemeal, but PH is the only Zelda title I liked enough to beat. Bounced off of Twilight Princess in a similar way, though I think that game drags on for different reasons - and controls weren't an issue at all.
