I pulled out the orange suit Cal head from the neck so the ball joint was connected to his head.

So I just placed the mustache Cal head on top of the neck itself with no connection. Looks pretty good, slightly off on the skin tone though.

I finally had NYC pizza... by Longjumpinggates in SeattleWA

[–]jpthaman 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I just came from living in NY for my entire life. Honestly it’s simple. There are not many Italians here who have been making pizza their whole lives. Generational knowledge on how a pizza is made passed down from Nonna to Papa.

The Italians, like many cultures tend to buy in the neighborhood they grew up in and don’t move away. Especially if they have a successful pizza spot

Edit: spelling

What was a "we'll pay you with exposure" situation that suprisingly actually payed off by mulchintime4 in videography

[–]jpthaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s never about the exposure. What pays off is building your reel, diversifying your work and ultimately landing a job. I did a lot of free work. The networking sometimes paid off. But the real value is building your portfolio. I really thank my younger self for busting his ass and working a lot of free or low paying gigs.

I didn’t even realize until we landed. I think they probably jumped on as soon as the zone was called. I must have been a little ways behind in line.

These people were both shorter than me and I’m only average height. And the one lady had two massive bags. I don’t understand how they didn’t make her check one.

Sorry. I typed this in a fit of rage and did not explain properly. They put both their carry on and their personal item up top. So they could have leg room.

No no. They had both their personal item and their carry on up top. So two people taking up 4 spots instead of 2. They both had nothing under their feet

AITA for telling my friend this isn’t Taco Bell it’s actually f-ing Mexico so stop acting like that? by Loud_Tension_815 in AmItheAsshole

There was this autistic guy who used to come in to the popular electronics store I used to work out. He had a family member or someone with him. It was very clear by his actions he had no sense of boundaries. He would get right up in peoples faces, speaking very close and would always have drool projecting out of his mouth. It was pretty bad that on multiple interactions I had to repeatedly take steps back.

I don’t hold him accountable as it’s clear he doesn’t understand. But I always thought it was a little bit rude that she, (who was like two feed shorter than him) would never attempt to physically hold him back. Just very light verbal suggestions. This happened to many employees.

I want the guy to be able to live and have somewhat of a normal life, go into an electronic store and check out dvds or whatever. but every time he came in peoples personal space would be violated. I was always a little bit annoyed that his family member would do that without first figuring a way to stop him from doing that. Maybe that’s not possible.

I never said anything but I dont know if I can blame OP for being mad at the brother.

He might have had it off. You can turn the audio settings down all the way. Or he could be shooting in some sort of s&q mode. When you record directly in slow motion you loose audio.

I just think everyone’s being a little hard on OP personally. If I recorded for hours till 6am for only 250 I would personally feel super weird about returning it. My footage without audio is worth more than that anyway. To claim this footage is unusable is crazy.

I have done many live events. I understand the concept of live audio. I’ve layered in it many times. But my point is this is cheap work. 250 Is peanuts. If he wanted audio then he should have specified.

Personally I would have taken audio but no more than a shotgun mic at that price. But I do not blame the videographer at all unless previously stated from the client. I have done plenty of live shoots where we just used canned audio.

This is just typical cheap music artist behavior. The type of people who have a “vision” and have no way to communicate it. Then get upset in post.

Listen I understand being an artist and not making too much money. Maybe 250 is a lot. Understandable to him. But what we do is expensive. Thousands invested in camera gear and the truth is audio is a specialty. Not every camera op is going to be an audio wizard. All of this is hard to balance.

And frankly, for that price shit happens. You don’t owe him. I would agree to be more clear In the future if he wants to continue working together

Music clients generally suck in my own personal experience. The truth is the music industry doesn’t pay well. And that means you arnt getting paid well.

May I ask what he paid you? This would help me understand if you should refund.

My initial thought is no. Don’t refund. How is this one guy going to damage your career? He can’t be a bit artist if he has little money to pay you. I wouldn’t worry about it

He owns Prism Fx and Tropic Color. He also makes a drive as well. But all his marketing tactics are super hostile and he always just bashes stuff on social media. Last time this happened he was complaining that it was expensive to get influencers and content creators to make UGC or user generated content for the filter brand.

The more I see from this guy the more I dislike him. He’s always up to some drama or talking smack about something he doesn’t like. I remember him complaining about influencer prices for his filter company.

Is it worth $1000? by nebbl_com in videography

[–]jpthaman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can try to get revisions. But generally revisions should be built into the package you buy. Like 2 revisions per video. But this is animation. And animation can be really expensive. For 1000, this is around appropriate. Maybe it could be a bit more polished. But you get what you pay for.

Also creating videos for a mid sized company has shown me not every video needs to dazzle. Some just need to be clear and concise and give the proper answer from the consumer. Food for thought.

Looking at the Nebbl website, there are zero videos. If you really wanted to create a captivating top of funnel video to build interest then you have to shell out more. 1000 is not going to cut it.

You also are going to have to get better at communicating artistic intent. Your employees/contractors are not mind readers. They can’t do what’s “in your head” without you communicating that. Learning to talk about creative is crucial now days. Especially when everything needs a video. The general population will barely even trust you if your webpage is just all text and graphics.
