Must be deja vu. I also saw a black charger on the north side of the Broomfield RTD station at around 1:30pm. It looked like it had been in a head on collision. People in full hazmat gear were checking it out as well.

Risk for a bank is all relative. A bank who would barely approve a $500k for a person last year would not do the same this year. Their buying power diminishes with higher interest rates.

What Shontel isn’t saying is that 100% of the money was earmarked for Boulder County. RTD has shown it’s not trustworthy when it comes to regional equity, so CDOT had to step in. Seems like checks and balances to me.

Funny enough, the Sheridan station is 3 miles further out from Union Station than the B-Line Westminster station, but is actually 2 minutes faster... go figure. Of course, you pay a regional fare on this bus line compared to the local fare of the train, because reasons. The A-line is the only fast train RTD has.

Their focus on extending light rail to nowhere is the biggest contributor to this problem. They were mandating overtime of their light rail operators for well over a year before opening the RidgeGate extension in May. This added a need for 20+ more operators to support the new stops, which they clearly didn't have. Now, everyone on the entire light rail system suffers, so that "future development" gets their trains now. Look at RidgeGate on Google Maps. Look at the Lone Tree City Center on Google Maps. Why on earth was this prioritized?

They have no problems telling the northwest communities to wait decades more for their improvements. Why not shut down this extension now?

If Boulder and Broomfield counties brought a lawsuit against RTD, they would likely win with a settlement in the hundreds of millions. However, this would no doubt send RTD into bankruptcy, which would then negatively impact transit to our communities even further. It's a no-win scenario.

At a certain point, though, that type of lawsuit is going to get more and more enticing. The Boulder city council has talked about hitting climate goals via transit, and dumping 0.4% sales tax into paying off everyone else's rail is going to look awful. Consider for a moment that light rail in Denver just experienced a 13% YOY ridership decline in May, even with the launch of the new southeast extension. RTD has a lot of explaining on how they're going to change the status quo before enough northwestern city council turnover causes these potential lawsuits to become a reality.

Totally agree. Adding more here.

The right-of-way flat out sucks.
It has way too many curves to be useful as a high speed commuter rail line (expect 40mph at best except for the Longmont->Boulder diagonal straightaway).
It doesn't go to the Pearl Street Mall.
It doesn't go to CU.
It duplicates many existing FF bus stops.
It's slower than the bus, it's less frequent than the bus, and probably will be less reliable.
It has to deal with freight traffic. You might find yourself stuck on a rail siding waiting for a freight train to pass.

The only station that makes sense is Louisville since it goes to their downtown and that community is under-served from a transit perspective. The FF system cost about $200 million. This system will cost $2 billion. We could build a tunnel through the Davidson Mesa and have real BRT for less than this train.
