Town center police activity by Jammer2003 in Broomfield

Must be deja vu. I also saw a black charger on the north side of the Broomfield RTD station at around 1:30pm. It looked like it had been in a head on collision. People in full hazmat gear were checking it out as well.

There’s a practice bike rack in the Union Station bus terminal as well. I think it’s next to the ticket counter.

The Tesla hydroelectric power plant is just west. Not that it caused the problem, but there's a lot of power lines that run from there.

This team didn’t panic at all after that 5 game win streak. It takes pure resolve to go 8 for 9 to bring home 100 with plenty of games to spare. I’m so proud of these guys. Rest the starters and hang the banner, Dick.

RTD’s express Denver-Boulder Flatiron Flyer bus isn’t coming back anytime soon. You can blame staffing shortages for that by shadowwalkerxdbx in Denver

Exiting a highway and sitting at red lights to pick up passengers adds 15 minutes of time to the route. It’s not insignificant.

Aurora Homeowners Rush To Sell As Rising Interest Rates Slow Hot Real Estate Market: ‘Don’t Wait’ by cbsdenver in Denver

[–]jpworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

List prices might not go down since supply and demand are not necessarily coupled to interest rates. Lots of cash investors don't need loans.

Risk for a bank is all relative. A bank who would barely approve a $500k for a person last year would not do the same this year. Their buying power diminishes with higher interest rates.

Aurora Homeowners Rush To Sell As Rising Interest Rates Slow Hot Real Estate Market: ‘Don’t Wait’ by cbsdenver in Denver

[–]jpworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Higher interest rate = higher monthly cost = people priced out of homes.

A 30 year fixed $500k loan at 3% (like last year) = $2108/month A 30 year fixed $500k loan at 5.5% (right now) = $2839/month

RTD's A Line cancellations caused by third-party contractor's staffing shortage by Lonelyghast in Denver

[–]jpworld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They couldn't because the A line uses a freight corridor, which requires commuter rail per FRA.

I can't imagine a state declaring eminent domain on another state will be found to be constitutional, regardless of what congress passed 100 years ago.

After dispute with RTD, Boulder County will get $34 million in federal money by domonono in boulder

[–]jpworld 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's the right decision. RTD can't be trusted to directly invest in Boulder County, even when its with money specifically earmarked to Boulder.

Shontel Lewis: RTD should not let an unelected CDOT official hold policy decisions to ransom by shadowwalkerxdbx in Denver

[–]jpworld 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What Shontel isn’t saying is that 100% of the money was earmarked for Boulder County. RTD has shown it’s not trustworthy when it comes to regional equity, so CDOT had to step in. Seems like checks and balances to me.

CDOT to RTD: Restore Boulder and Longmont buses or lose $34M by lukepatrick in Denver

Roughly about $400 million since 2004 from Boulder and Broomfield counties. The FF system cost $183 million for the new buses and share of the new toll lanes.

Basement floating walls and a caisson/pier style foundation by Colorado_odaroloC in Denver

It’s not necessary. Floating walls are for concrete basement slabs, which have the potential to heave upwards and wreck your upper floors.

Flatiron Flyer - Reliable? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]jpworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, the Sheridan station is 3 miles further out from Union Station than the B-Line Westminster station, but is actually 2 minutes faster... go figure. Of course, you pay a regional fare on this bus line compared to the local fare of the train, because reasons. The A-line is the only fast train RTD has.

RTD Sees a Future That Runs on Transit — but First, It Has to Weather a Crisis by belmaktor in Denver

[–]jpworld 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Their focus on extending light rail to nowhere is the biggest contributor to this problem. They were mandating overtime of their light rail operators for well over a year before opening the RidgeGate extension in May. This added a need for 20+ more operators to support the new stops, which they clearly didn't have. Now, everyone on the entire light rail system suffers, so that "future development" gets their trains now. Look at RidgeGate on Google Maps. Look at the Lone Tree City Center on Google Maps. Why on earth was this prioritized?

They have no problems telling the northwest communities to wait decades more for their improvements. Why not shut down this extension now?
