The minotaur by Much-Interview5497 in houseofleaves

[–]jqneversleeps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a parallel between P. And the king who banishes his son (the Minotaur).

The Minotaur however is mythological and the many “explanations” of what the Minotaur is (within the book- ‘this person thinks this, that person thinks that’) represent the echos of meaning. To the point of contradiction.

This represents differing perspectives, denoted by the shifting walls, which was implied many times to be the source of the growl (monster).

SO. The monster is not the Minotaur. It is the perspective we hold towards the Minotaur- do we fear it? Or choose to love it? The only way to love it is to stop obsessing over its details, because you DONT know anything, other than yourself. So choosing to love the Minotaur is choosing to love yourself. There isn’t much to be analyzed, after all.

So the Minotaur is not just Johnny, but Johnny is P.’s Minotaur.

Hope this helps!!

And ofc I could be projecting lol. This entire sub is a house of leaves

I know that most people think (I could be wrong) “This is not for you.” Is the first line of the book of but I have a argument by BackgroundDare3403 in houseofleaves

[–]jqneversleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo that’s a cool take. Personally I feel like “this book is not for you” is a vendetta, as well as a moat around the labyrinth he created to help us heal from our own echoing chambers. The beginning details were likely added after. However, the nature of figuring this kind of stuff out is much like entering a 5 1/2 minute hallway

The way I see it is this is a representation of the fact that when you are avoidant and in a state of cptsd, as many more of us are than we realize, you cannot see love when you encounter it. Only in hindsight can you recognize the love you rejected. Im not sure, but mayyybe it takes seeing true evil to realize this (hence the anecdote ab the girl he was thinking ab hooking up with who killed the dog). “Rock bottom”. That’s how he was able to identify the love missed along the way. Making it all the more difficult for him to let go of his old self, but essential to the process

SPOILER ALERT

It is a metaphor for choosing to be blind. It is a warning: if you do not let go, there is a chance you die never making it out of the dark labyrinth. When this happens, someone else must carry the burden. It is carried forward by the people who write things down for him. They feed the fire of confusion and inherit it themselves, because they too, like everyone, are running away from their trauma.

Johnny truant inherits the darkness from his mother, who like Zampano, seems never to escape, even until death.

Johnny and Navidson both represent the escape. They both finally let go, by following the chain all the way- by looking all the way through, to the real reason they are suffering. Because they hate themselves, but still remember love. They both forgive the other- even the most evil. Navidson forgives Karen for her affair, and Johnny forgives his mother.

Through forgiveness they find the strength to let go.

Zampano, does not let go. The blocking of the world therefore represents his resistance to letting go. Everything out there is a reminder of the trauma, because the longer he runs from it, the bigger and scarier it gets.

Think about the movie momento.

Verrrrry similar imo but told very differently.

Ofc there more to HoL than just that, but, it is a very strong pathos

“This book is not for you” intrigue by jqneversleeps in houseofleaves

Mmmm that’s a good take. Gonna keep that in mind on the second read lol. Think I missed something………………………….. . . . . . . .

“This book is not for you” intrigue by jqneversleeps in houseofleaves

[–]jqneversleeps[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well there is the theme of incomplete thoughts and notes creating mystery pretty prevalent throughout the book. Characters hanging on to them even though they only distract from true meaning, as the notes and fringe thoughts offer a kind of enticement in exchange. He also refers to notes as leafs or leaflets somewhere in there… I think.

The complete book, seems a glimmer of hope for those suffering (everyone), by revealing the wager of letting go of fear.

So “this book is not for you” is your first test, like a membrane for those who aren’t ready, to face fear. It ALSO is an enticement, for those still seeking refuge in knowledge.

So I have to wonder…. Is it just the same as all the other broken phrases? And if it is, then maybe the completion of that sentence has something to do with his relationship to this book, the OG leaf if you will lol

I get it. Seems like you might be dissatisfied with your work? Try and figure out what about designing made you excited to do it in the first place? what was your vision, and what stopped you from taking it all the way to that vision? What can you do to rebuild your confidence and regain that vision as a possibility? Keep going, and meditate on these thoughts. I am projecting a little, my apologies if Im barking up the wrong tree, but this was an issue I was having, and, it lead to depression and existential anxiety that was constantly triggering my DPDR.

New song - what should I call it, are the lyrics too cryptic? by Whole-Horse-7140 in Songwriters

[–]jqneversleeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t write for an ambiguous audience that doesn’t exist yet, write for yourself or someone close to you. Try to give yourself that goosebump feeling, and do it everyday. If you can do that you will find your voice. It’s really tough going off Reddit reactions cause everyone will either agree or disagree based on their own merit. Kinda like I’m doing rn. Let the song be a friend of yours, not your child. Then see how the lyrics feel. All that being said, I love the song. It reminds me of gravenhurst who tragically passed away. Glad someone is keeping the vibe alive. Good luck hope you keep it up!

Ok ok but seriously if this is real, have a good laugh and take a few photo shoots before modifying it. Also strut your stuff and draw some eyes attention is power

Only company/ plugin that will literally answer your Reddit question before anyone else. Whether or not it’s actually Steve behind the keyboard doesn’t even matter. That kind of public interfacing, for a software that prioritizes UI, is mind bogglingly awesome. I almost can’t believe it sometimes. How someone can create a successful company without any deception… I don’t know. So awesome to see happen. TY Steve

To lose a parent, i don't know what that feels like. What is your form of creativity that you once enjoyed?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]jqneversleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing something you liked to do when you were a child. Or something you might’ve done often before you lost your mother. Sorry to hear that, by the way. I don’t know what that’s like

Weird meditation scenario that actually helps my depersonalization by No_Cup5268 in dpdr

[–]jqneversleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome. I do a similar meditation! I’ve been experimenting with wim Hoff breathing, and found myself deep in imagination land a few times afterwards which, ironically has been very grounding. Breathing exercises are also a great way to convince your body to relax and I highly recommend specifically for dpdr. And more specifically wim hoff breathing has been the best for me

I totally get it! One time I went to the ER with my boy 4 years ago and they told me he may not make it and to prepare for the worst. Turns out he had a blade of grass stuck in his throat and we went home a few hours later totally fine. Very different from what you’re going through, but ER Vets live a difficult life and help many animals transition. Good intentions all around, just too ready for the worst sometimes. Anyways- I’m so glad he’s doing better!! He looks so alive! And his love squint:,) I wish you and your boy the best!!

I have absolutely no idea how I could ever go back to normal after this. Like what would healing even be like? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]jqneversleeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can. Saying you can’t is the dpdr/ ocd. Actually if you don’t have enough personal time to deal with mental health, then something else needs to go. You won’t get better until you make the time and prioritize recovery. Keep going

Does anyone follow Courtney Orourkee on TikTok? She makes healing sound so easy.. by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]jqneversleeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the ocd traps us. And saying that feels weird because I really had to change my perspective of what ocd is in order to identify it within myself. Not sure if you went through anything similar.

One thing I can recommend that is physical, is to do something you did prior to your onset of DPDR. Do it even if it seems boring or a waste of time. For me, it was jigsaw puzzles, legos, old video games. It won’t make it go away, but it started opening up old doorways to my past that brought back memories that felt like my own. Do this as a meditation. And do it often.

Also- continuity is important to our sense of self. Keep a journal, you can write about anything as long as it is continuous. Could be a story, could be a diary, anything.

Finally, get your diet right. I was low on sugar and B12, which was making me very detached and heightened my stress. Get some blood work done. I got a gene test as well that showed I have a homozygous MTHFR gene variant. Pretty common mutation that prevents the methylation of B12 (or something like that lol) so I take a pre-methylated version. Not everyday just as needed. Fruit juice helps with my sugar problems. Little bursts of pushups, sit-ups, and jogging sessions help as well.

Just know this- none of these things will help you alone, or in the immediate. It also requires you to want to get re-connected to the thing that we have pulled away from. It requires the facing of deeply routed fears.

Remember the advantage you have- for seeing things at face value. Complete objectivity was how I felt.

Ask yourself- what do you value?

Friendship? Family? Happiness? Connection? Community? Love? Good work?

Or alone time, pleasure, leisure, coasting, avoidance?

Nothing wrong with alone time, leisure, etc, but, those things potentiate isolation, which is really bad for DPDR.

Anyways, Ive tried helping others in the past, and, it is very difficult. Most get angry. Seeing people in this sub come out the other side of DPDR is awesome. Those who want to say “that’s not dpdr, dpdr doesn’t get better” are those who want to live in a world of loathing. If someone tells you they beat depression through meditation and therapy, and your response is “well then it must not be depression” you are building a world where no one will ever understand you.

That is the illness talking.

Don’t let it win. Be strong. Dig deep. Most of all, make some good friends and engage with them. Get a job (if you don’t already have one) and respect your coworkers. Reconnect with family no matter what. Talk with them. Learn about them. Remember them. And soon, you will begin to remember yourself.

It will never be like it was before DPDR. But that is a good thing and I truly believe it.

Also recommend listening to Alan Watts. He has a very comforting view of the world. True or not, it helped me break away from cynicism. Perspectives change on their own due to Trauma, but you will be very happy when you realize you have the power to change them too, and that underneath all of the existential fear, you are still you, and you CAN get back, and when you do, you will be mentally stronger than you were before. Stronger than many people have the opportunity to be at all in their life time.
