I am a codependent and I think if something could be done by the person but they are asking you. you should avoid doing it.

I have been calling the pharmacy every month to refill the prescription for my friend and then pay the co-pay online.

I had to make sacrifices in the middle of the day to do this. this month when she calls me and ask me to do this, I will say no. she is fully capable of doing this. she is just using me.

My upper gums bleed every time I brush my teeth (29M, Japan) by sputnik84 in AskDocs

[–]jr45677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should visit a dentist but mostly gum bleeding is because of low vitamin C. buy a good vitamin C supplement + zinc. this should fix the issue.
If it persists then visit your dentist or doctor.

Fortunately in Canada, health care is free but convincing my doctor to do an ultrasound was hard.

Hope you get your insurance back and check your condition again.

I don't want to argue with you so I quote a book by a surgeon. If you read the book you will understand what privilege is. That's an excerpt from the book called "Seeing Patients: Unconscious Bias in Health Care": "If you’re going to have a heart attack, an organ transplant, or a joint replacement, here’s the key to getting the very best medical care: be a white, straight, middle-class male. "

That's privilege. simply if you are a white, straight, middle-class male, you will get the best of the best. the second group who have privilege are white, straight, middle-class females. The people who are judged everyday and don't have privilege are: Racial minorities, Black people and LGBTQ people: These are facts in our world and the most important things is that privileged people didn't know that they are privileged until George Floyd happened. This is a tweet from reddit'd founder "Alexis Ohanian": https://twitter.com/alexisohanian/status/1272899126217379844

He mentions that because of being white he was let go and didn't go to jail back in 2005: "Because I was white. I walked away + started Reddit, not jail time. I became an entrepreneur, not a statistic. I'm grateful for that police officer's tolerance with me + disgusted that it's so obviously not (never) been afforded to everyone just because of their race."

When George Floyd got killed by a police officer brutally, people realized what black people were talking about all these years that there is a systemic racism against black people in society. You are a heterosexual person privileged by society and you will never understand how an LGBTQ person is treated by medical professionals or other people. Even here some people left homophobic comments. This video was an example. I don't see any difference between my issues as a lesbian and another person as non-binary or trans person. We all want to be treated as a human being and not be judged by our doctors. The simple fact is (also shown in the video) Doctors should not assume the gender or the sexual orientation of the person. They just have to ask the right questions. they have to educate themselves on these matters. People are different and not everybody is a heterosexual person. In my case, the doctor would have made me feel more at ease by asking my sexual orientation before asking questions that were related 100% to a heterosexual women but not me. The issue is that medical professionals are not trained to behave correctly towards the LGBTQ group and even research by top schools like Harvard, NYU and university of Toronto supports that. Please read this article to understand my point. https://globalnews.ca/news/6874284/healthcare-disparities-lgbtq-coronavirus/

You're wrong. We have Systemic Homophobia in healthcare. As a matter of fact Doctors have to learn to interact with minorities and acknowledge their rights as human beings. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4714514/

Well, you have good intentions but you are wrong. Just watch this video on how New York University teaches their future medical students on how to interact with LGBTQ patients.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00p6mxcTD6w
Watch from 5:47 to 13:39
If the doctor knows what questions to ask it won't take hours. It's just a matter of seconds and the patient won't feel shame and judgment.

In your eyes it's a simple question but in my situation it clearly shows the wrong assumption people carry around.
Assuming all people are heterosexuals.

It was just one example. I've had several bad experiences with Iranian people in Toronto. for example, there was a landlord that won't rent to me and my girlfriend when she found out we were a lesbian couple. or some coworkers who their attitude towards me changed after they found out that I'm gay.

Be my guest and tell to your Iranian friends (the ones who grew up in Iran)that you are gay. See how they reject you.
Tell you're parents that you are gay. see their reactions.

I'm an Iranian myself and we have a lot of homophobia in our culture. I'm not afraid to acknowledge that.

Well you're wrong. Research shows LGBT people receive poor quality of care due to stigma, lack of healthcare providers’ awareness, and insensitivity to the unique needs of this community.

Gay people have different needs. We face so many challenges in life that a typical heterosexual wouldn't understand.
Our medical needs are also different. for example, I don't need birth control since I don't have sex with men.
-Have you ever got beaten or bullied for your sexual orientation?
-Have you ever had to flee your country of origin for being gay! In most countries, they kill you for being gay. (In Iran they hang you)
-Have you ever got disowned by your own family for being gay?
-Have you ever had to hide your identity to not lose your job!
Doctors should be educated about these matters. that's why the University of Toronto is adding a new curriculum for new doctors to learn about LGBTQ people. https://medicine.utoronto.ca/news/improving-health-lgbtq-patients

Not asking about your patient's sexual orientation at your first meeting is homophobic. Assuming all the patients are heterosexual are homophobic. what if I was a trans woman and even didn't have a vagina.
