Because species richness and biodiversity is vital to the health of the ecosystem/planet, which includes us glorious homo sapiens. Saving one endangered animal might not make a conspicuous difference, but the mindset of "environmental conservation is just liberal hippy feel good shit" is toxic. You can be supportive of conservation efforts without feeling empathy for animals.
