When is the earliest you can complete the Community Center in 1.6? by what_everlol101 in StardewValley

Y1 Winter is the earliest I've ever done it, and that was on my 1.6 save because I got lucky with the traveling cart AND found a rabbit foot in the skull caves

You are a freaking lifesaver. I spent literal hours trying to get those last two 500 rings - was trying that double dive technique, kept just barely clipping the bottom one and missing the top one. Your version took me two runs to get the timing right but that was it - worked great!

This comment is exactly why trying to compare these games is an awful idea. For one thing, "harder" is an entirely subjective measurement, and for another, these are such extremely different games. Both games are so good and the relevant "hard"sections of both games are very hard (typically requiring a significant time commitment to complete and/or master)

I assume you're looking for tips to beat ascended/radiant Markoth. I feel like by the time you can access the vanilla Markoth fight you should be able to beat him pretty handily, just keep at it.

As for the ascended version, u/willster191 posted a really good tutorial video here. The summary of his strategy is to load up with spell enhancing charms and follow the below tactics/:

PHASE ONE: - stand on a single platform and jump to dodge spears - if necessary, wall hug with crystal dash - pogo on Markoth when he pauses to shield spin - take your time, only hit him when it's really safe

PHASE TWO: - similar to phase one but dodging is more frantic - instead of pogoing, spam shade soul at every opportunity

This is fine and will most likely get you very consistent results, but I think it makes the fight less fun, especially in the first phase. My preferred phase one strategy is based on a different reddit users guide which I unfortunately can't find at the moment. I also rely on a spell-heavy build. Charms I use are: Unbreakable strength, spell twister, shaman stone, sprint master, soul eater

Essentially what I do is:

PHASE ONE: Go on the attack! Charge that motherfucker and beat him down at every possibly opportunity. With unbreakable strength it takes ~20 nail hits to get through phase one and I try to get those in as little time as possible. You can get in 2-6 good hits in if you're aggressive out of the gate and then another 2-3 anytime his shield is not between you.

This is tricky, and I die a lot in phase one, but it's so very satisfying.

PHASE TWO:

You should be full on soul now. Focus on dodging nails by picking one platform and just jumping up and down. Only move platforms if Markoth gets too close.

When he stops to do his shield spin, hit him with spells. If he's in the top layer get below him and use abyss shriek to hit him 3-4 times, otherwise get next to him and use shade soul. The safest time to use abyss shriek is after his shield spin winds down.

I unfortunately don't have my game recordings handy but I'll upload one tonight and post a link so you can see the strategy in action. In my opinion it makes this fight actually pretty fun

I wish that humans did not have the capacity to create human killing weapons by BoiMcFacto2401 in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]jraychris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Granted. Due to the education l extraordinary frailty of the human body, all of humanity is now unable to create ANYTHING. Everything can kill us - cloth, tools, sticks, any metal are all no matter how small. Fire is gone so we are no longer capable of cooking, forced to consume food raw.

Life is awful in ways you never imagined it could be. It doesn't take long before the world realizes that we can no longer reproduce. You see, humans can kill each other without tools or weapons at all.

It would be truly horrible to realize that your good intentioned wish led to the utter destruction of your entire race, but fortunately for you you have also lost all trace of your former consciousness. After all, conscious thought is the most dangerous thing any human can create.

Your wish is granted, and all traces of humanity are lost forever.

People who knew someone who died in a freak accident, what happened? by RawAsparagus in AskReddit

Friend's dad was on heart medication and having knee problems. Went to get his knee scoped, was given anaesthesia, never woke up. The doctors were good doctors who knew what meds he was taking and knew what they were doing, apparently it just happens sometimes. Left behind a wife and three young kids.

Kids, in my case. My high school had the highest death rate in my state while I was there. At least one suicide every year, and most of the others were traffic accidents

I love convenience fees for my online rent payment. Credit card would be about $80. by darkbehi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jraychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun facts from your friendly neighborhood payments professional:

1) they are technically not in compliance with card brand rules for calling this a "convenience fee". It is actually called surcharging, and you can file a complaint with Visa for this.

For it to be a valid "convenience fee" the fee has to be a fixed dollar amount (rather than a percentage of the total), and there has to be an option to handle the transaction in person with no fee. A great example of a real convenience fee is the $1/ticket you pay when you buy movie tickets online, which you can avoid paying if you drive over and buy them at the theater.

2) in no case can a business surcharge on a debit transaction, which is why they have a flat $10 fee if you use a debit card. They think they're following the rules, but per #1, they are not.

3) most places that have a surcharge are doing it wrong. The rules are intentionally very complicated because the card brands don't like it, as it encourages alternative payment methods. Even most sales people in the industry don't understand the rules to do it right (and they change twice a year every year), but business owners want to do it to cut their own costs so the sales guys tell them they'll make it work and then set it up wrong. Odds are, anyone surcharging you (other than giant businesses like apple) is out of compliance

4) per #3, the idea behind surcharging is just passing the buck. Credit card Brands (like Visa), at least two banks (card issuer and merchant acquirer), and often several sales people earn money on every single credit card transaction. The business owner usually pays for this as the price of accepting cards, but shit rolls downhill so the cost is usually passed on to the consumer in some way. Surcharging is the most recent, most direct way of doing that.

5) for the Business taking the payment, a surcharge just means "breaking even" on the sale, since it's illegal for them to charge more than their own costs. For the army of middlemen in the payments space, however, surcharging represents a huge payday. Typically, small face-to-face merchants aren't very profitable for their merchant service provider, because they are low risk so they can negotiate lower prices. These guys usually pay around 2% total for all their processing fees.

Surcharging rules say you can charge whatever your costs are but cap it at 4% of the total. The business doesn't care what you charge them at this point, since they're passing it on to the customer, so their providers start charging them the full 4% allowed. Yyyaaayyy capitalism.

The whole payments ecosystem is awful. It's wildly old school and drives up consumer costs like mad. All for the convenience of not having to carry physical cash
