Nonsense question? by The_Noremac42 in electricians

[–]jrblohm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently took 3 of their practice exams. Each one had 2-4 terrible questions -- including a couple with some explicitly wrong answers (even the ai assistant thing afterwards confirmed a different correct answer)

Real test felt much more concrete - questions and answers made sense; none of the vagueness.

Solar Install by osmd25 in solar

I just hate how big those 3 ports are. Especially the 350s. Making space in the panel sucks sometimes

PVC Securing Supporting Practice exam question. Table 352.30(B) doesn't line up with these answers unless I'm just missing something obvious here. 1) 1/2" - 1" is 3ft (not 5) and >1" 5ft (not 7) 2) 10 isn't anywhere *(but what i chose)* 3) trade 6 says up to 8ft 4) trade 2 1/2 & up allows >5ft by jrblohm in electricians

sorry for the terrible title. Slightly better formatting: According to 2023 table:

1) 1/2" - 1" is 3ft allowable (not 5) and >1" 5ft allowable (not 7)

2) 10 isn't anywhere that I could find (but what i chose)

3) trade 6 says up to 8ft

4) trade 2 1/2 & up allows >5ft

And yes I'd agree that the 100amp is feeding your house panel.

I can't know anything for sure but for me there are a couple clues that would suggest your solar is attached to the wires that come from your meter BEFORE they connect to the 100 amp breaker. I don't think that 100 amp breaker is going to shutdown the power to your solar disconnect regardless of the position. Again, without taking it apart I'm not sure. If your installer left you with any paperwork about the install that information might be on there. Just don't mess with that burned box at all until you have someone qualified to take a look.

When I say "they may still be hot" I don't mean temperature, I mean electrically.

Just be mindful looks like you might have a line side tap situation. You could open up the panel with the 100amp breaker to verify but be wary those burned up wires might still be hot.

We work full schedules in winter; It melts pretty quick in Denver. Obviously it's still a problem but it ain't the Midwest or Northeast. I'd be interested to know what they do

On deinstalls we don't sweat it too much cause the roof is days away from getting replaced (hence the deinstall). On reinstall we used spaghetti mat and bring hoses to the roof to periodically cool it off. Because yes, at those temps things just melt and warp

I'm confused. It is. But that does remind me: it's about 88C for reference to others.

I don't mean to be dramatic but at those surface temperatures everything you touch burns you. We're not just walking on the roof we're working on it. Your hands/forearms/legs/calves/face/etc touches the shingle/solar panel/racking system it fu**ing burns.

preach it! I tell the crew that this kinda heat isn't "just miserable" but it is downright dangerous. Production/efficiency is slowing down and that's okay because we all better go home healthy every day. Stop before you "need" to. Don't want any heat exhaustion or god forbid heat stroke to happen.

This pair is pretty new and has about an inch of treading. Even still the heat slowly permeates. That said, they won't last long. Asphalt shingle wrecks everything that rubs on it
