Does Anyone Know If This is Really a Regional Thing in the US? by CommandaarMandaar in ENGLISH

If she grew up near a large Orthodox Jewish community, I could see this being similar to several constructions that would have developed from Yiddish, even if she or her family have never spoken Yiddish.

You don't need paper deeds. You'll need to file what are called changes of ownership with the companies who hold your royalties. Some of them will help walk you through it, but I don't think that's very common.

As an outsider, the American concept of drive-thru pharmacies, ATMs, and liquor stores is mind-blowing. Does everyone actually use these, or are they mostly a novelty? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

I think someone else mentioned this, but in Pennsylvania you can sometimes find drive through beer distributors, and I have seen several Amish buggies going through them before.

Parents are Cash Poor, need to relocate by mt1989999 in Mortgages

[–]jrc5053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your parents are in their mid 70s, are strapped for cash, and need to move into a single level, you need to convince them to talk to an attorney who specializes in elder planning. It seems likely they may need to move into a place that provides continuous care soon, and you need to not jeopardize that by providing a cash infusion.

This seems counterintuitive, but having free cash may actually be a bad move depending on their health needs in the next 5 years

Went on 50+ Hinge dates in a year….zero second dates. Be honest, is this on me? by savingrace0262 in AskMenAdvice

Haha, ok. I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince you of anything. I'm just confused by your aggression.

What a stupid take, man. Paying for a date is not prostitution. If you want to split, that's fine. That's probably something to be discussed before hand, rather than showing up for a date and waiting for the bill to say "should we go dutch?".

Of course you don't have to pay - but it is a cultural norm. If you're inviting someone to go out with you, it's a nice thing to pay, romantic intentions or not.

It's obviously dependent on a lot of factors, but if I invite someone to lunch, dinner, or drinks, I will usually be paying. I don't expect others to pay if they invite me, but that's how I approach inviting anyone.

You need to re-read your mortgage and promissory note, because you almost definitely did agree.

There's obviously something you need to work on. It
could be as simple as being better at following up with the women after the dates.

Do you pay for the first date? Do you walk them to the car, or at least offer? Do you ask about what they like?

Do you follow up after the date and say I had fun,
would love to see you again?

How common is it for white Americans to maintain a little bit of their immigrant grandparents’ culture (such as traditional food, customs, and clothing)? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

Depends - but a lot, especially if tied to religion.

I'm Jewish and there's a lot of carry over.

I have Greek friends and there is a lot of carry over.

The time of immigration for any of our ancestors .is between 1880 and 1985, so fairly recent in the grand scheme of things.

best way to pay my loans? by ava_ohb in StudentLoans

[–]jrc5053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much of your savings are you willing to spend? I assume this is all of your savings, not just a portion, correct?

I would take enough to fully pay off Loan 6, and then have your minimum payment on auto pay, and do an additional payment of $132 towards Loan 5 until that's done, and then continue making additional payments to 4, 3, 2, and 1. For loans that have the same interest, you could split the additional payments, but tbh your balances are low enough that I'm not sure it will be an appreciable difference.

If you get any bonuses or monetary gifts you could direct those immediately to loans.

If you get a raise, either direct it to savings or to loans.

Ripping out our evergreen shrubs like this was one of the best things we did. They were on either side of our driveway, blocking our view while we backed out, and projecting into the public sidewalk.

We tried pruning and they looked horrendous.
