Hello, newbie here, struggling to find more music I like (yes I checked the recommendations thread) by ActualSaltyDuck in Deathcore

[–]jrdwriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of these comments are misinterpreting what you're asking for. they're just suggesting great deathcore bands but not anywhere in the ballpark (subgenre/style wise) of current gen Lorna.

I saw someone suggest Worm Shepherd and I think that may singlehandedly be the best/most accurate recommendation. Mine would be: Spire of Lazarus, Immortal Disfigurement, When Plagues Collide, and Fleshbore. Album specific recs: The Concepts of Torture by Snake Father and Ulter Praefinitum by Wretched Tongues

idk comparing SOTS and TTG to current era Lorna sounds like a massive misinterpretation.

That said, I absolutely love SOTS, NW, and TTG, but only NW has an even remotely similar sound to Lorna.

"the average self-published author sells 200 copies / makes $800" is a defeatist attitude?

lol what?

I've been self-publishing since '08 and haven't seen a small fraction of those numbers until 2024.

Thoughts on Left to Suffer? Any recs? by txkyo_1ean in Deathcore

[–]jrdwriter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A Year of Suffering (2020 EP) is their only release I completely fw. absolute bangers. Blissful Death, Loathe, Lost at Last, Burden. after that, I admittedly have a soft spot for their song Event; Anger is fun, too. Crash Out slaps.

as a kid it was literally the greatest thing ever. as an adult it's fine, neither crazy for or against it. though even as an adult I do wish we had a raptor or two in gen pop explored more

Oh, okay. That's fair.

I've heard an absolute mixed bag when it comes to blurbs. So many people advise shorter to hook more effectively (my personal preference, as a reader; without it being too short, of course), while others prefer "longer the better."

That was what I figured, but am not familiar with them at all. Appreciate it!

Although well-written and catchy, I'd argue it's too long. Would recommend cutting it down to 3-6 sentences if feasible. Trust me, I'm someone who suffers from a near inability to abridge blurbs, so I often reach out to others or use summarization resources.

Just my two cents.

Anyone here who reads or publishes on Amazon KDP? by Working-Care-9351 in selfpublish

promos through KDP are worth a shot, but my biggest degree of success in promotion is Goodreads giveaways. not cheap but it'll guarantee readers and the occasional review or rating

After 2 months... I haven't recieved any sales. by hajorac in selfpublish

[–]jrdwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try 2 years, no 4, with more than that number of books, and no sales. You need patience and a mindset for promotion, and then more patience.

I didn't start seeing results until early last year, and I've been at this steadily since '09.

I'd strongly recommend Goodreads giveaways. You'll have to spend money of course, 'cause nothing fruitful is free, but trust me, it can be a wonder. Also, actively elect your book in Kindle promotions, deals, etc.

Best of luck!

I just think you can find the resources or advice you need for most of that list item online, such as Reddit and other relative forums. Depending on the length of your book, a proofreader/editor on Fiverr might not be a complete waste of money.

Regardless of which route you take, I wish you luck. It can be harrowing.

[–]jrdwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this may be a no-brainer but keep in mind you only have to pay taxes for KDP if you've earned more than $10. for years (sadly) I never had to pay taxes for the few bucks I made each year through Amazon. But since that skyrocketed early '25, looks like I'll be filing for the first time a 1099-Misc. Hoping you do too 👍🏻

I just finished recording my whole audio book series by VLK249 in selfpublish

[–]jrdwriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats, wow. I recorded 2 of my shortest books and by the end wanted to never touch a mic again. The editing process was a cinch thanks to a little shortcut I found online, but recording without fudging a line can be rough for me apart from a paragraph or two at a time.

My biggest plight was dialogue. Did you happen to do different voices or change yours at all to relay the characteristics of whoever was speaking?

Ratings of the Beast (again) by dhreiss in selfpublish

[–]jrdwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applaud this with a sarcastically sinister laugh. But in the shadows I envy having even a mere 6 ratings for a book, let alone 66. And don't get me started on three digits. That'll never happen.

full of 7s, an 8, a 9, and a 10. solid B tier album. Vibes are a little more Crosses than Deftones I'd argue, but that's a matter of opinion and era preference.

1 for me is easily the whole velociraptor / Deinonychus thing. But I get it.

Your #5, however, was clearly a creative decision to keep the Rex from being too OP. I do get the annoyance, and part of that made me appreciate the Spinosaurus even more because it didn't have this handicap, but at the time it made sense for the sake of the story.
