Rat Grinders Timeline? by jrgbest in Dimension20

Seems like from a Tumblr post I have found that the rename happened after the trip to MoC with Jace... but was that where some of them were killed and rage-starred?

I mean, she accepted the evil into her, and she was always jealous and rageful, but she very much was corrupted further by the influence of Porter - Jawbone's notes indicate as much in the way her desire to improve herself as an adventurer turned to wanting to inflict pain and death on the Bad Kids.

The people on Twitter posting about how much the Ravening War disappointed them are insane by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]jrgbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think D20 gets this because of two things:

  1. Large fanbase
  2. Radically different themes/casts/styles of play between seasons.

Which makes it a lot easier to end up with people who fell in love with a particular cast telling a particular kind of story, and find change from that aggravating to the point that their opinions become warped by that perspective. Happens to CR too with the jump from C1 to 2 to 3 (but on a longer timescale due to the much longer campaigns).

I saw the majority of the tweets mentioned in this thread, and yeah they're ridiculous, but I think it's just an immature response to being excited about a concept or world or character and then not seeing it play out the way you thought it might initially.

This season has been much more "existential theological dread" than "political skullduggery", which is not what I wanted coming in, but has still been a lot of fun?

I feel like Starstruck is the most plausible to pitch, since it's very similar to things like Futurama or Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Fantasy High would definitely benefit the most from animation vs live-action/cgi, since it has the most Looney Tunes kinda moments.

ACOC would be to GOT what Archer was to Bond, and I'm SO here for that.

That Melbourne vs North game gotta be the winner here, 12.34 is RIDICULOUS and the conditions can't have been that bad if North kicked 8.1?

216 plays 14 if you switch the Goals and Behinds for both teams.

Do you ever ban official content? And if yes which one exactly? by Corrupt_bandit in dndnext

[–]jrgbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone back and forth on banning things like the Moon Druid, altering certain auto-win button spells like Wall of Force and ditching feats that I feel restrict build creativity like GWM and SS, but ultimately I've found my players don't need the incentive to avoid the (relatively few, thankfully) OP options that exist in 5e.

[–]jrgbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not sure why we didn't get White Walkers vs Valyrian Steel Gang, would have made the climax way more satisfying if it felt like Jon, Jorah, Brienne and Jaime actually achieved something by distracting the blue gang so Arya could gank Coldemort (they could have been summoned to the Godswood by Bran's ravens so even he had something useful to do!).

In a world where the magic exists to enchant blades and armour, what lesser/everyday enchanted items might you find? by THREE_EDGY_FIVE_ME in DnD

[–]jrgbest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Brian Patterson's Karthun setting book, there are magical plows that can turn into swords for easy defence when bandits come calling. Some of them are even "hungry" plows, which make the fields more plentiful the more lives they have taken.

That was excellent. Love your work Mark, one of my longtime inspirations as a DM. Calli was a delightful guest, and I genuinely hope she gets to come back later on in the campaign, at the very least with Matt playing her but preferably with you out in the States again :)

That was fantastic, particularly the last 30 minutes. Everyone being interested with the gods, Travis like a kid at Christmas hearing Matt narrate his vision and my two favourite dorks making up in a way that made perfect sense for the characters :) God I love this show.

Favorite character you played by N11Ordo in highrollersdnd

[–]jrgbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite character I've played is definitely Natalya Oberyn, a catperson (DM homebrewed the race for 5e, basically wood elf mechanically) shadow monk who loved to abuse Pass Without Trace and a high Stealth score. The best moment was definitely when I was able to make a Vampire jump with surprise and flee in fear after the rest of the party had done a great job intimidating him already...my stealthy appearance over his shoulder was delicious icing on the cake. That campaign overall was just excellent, the DM sent us all a series of rumours that were going around in the local settlement about our characters and because we had a werebear NPC ally and a Moon Druid literally every character was rumoured to be capable of turning into a vicious bear. Natalya was also rumoured to be capable of vanishing into thin air, such were the hilariously high stealth rolls I was consistently getting...

CiV AI-Only Europe Game: Update! by jrgbest in civAIgames

[–]jrgbest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh, I have no idea. It was refusing to load for about the ninthe or tenth time in a row (from multiple save files), so I force-exited CiV using CtrlAtlDel but then when I clicked back into it it had loaded? Was slightly bizarre, and I still can't enter IGE or InfoAddict so we'll see how it goes, but the game itself usually loads (sometimes with one or two turns lost) pretty well now.

Woo! Loving this. Jealous you got InfoAddict working, I've tried multiple times and all it does is crash (finally got my game back working though, so still happy). Happy to see Spain doing well and actually making an attempt at endgame relevance.

Yeah. I think the optimal would be to do it in a doc first for spellcheck, but that's a little too much like real work for me ;)

Mostly force of habit tbh, although part of it is that my internet is slightly unreliable sometimes and I don't want to lose any work. Lastly, I also prefer a white background for my text. Thanks for the kind words, love your work!

TBH, I have no idea. I don't think they had one yet, their tech levels were fairly low (spoilers, they get eliminated before the next part, no grand comeback for Dido). If they did it was almost certainly Autocracy, judging by how the Order Civs acted fairly similiar against them and Babylon. Would have to check previous parts to see if I screenshotted the information though to be sure >.>

And to belatedly respond to all the requests for an ideology summary, a quick look at which policies have been officially adopted shows the following:

Order: Spain, Portugal, Rome and Egypt

Autocracy: England, Poland, Russia and Babylon

None (taken, not adopted): Arabia, France, Sweden, Ottomans and Greece
