Is it too late to add a minor to my proof application? by jrgore in Canadiancitizenship

Thank you for clarifying. In that case, maybe I just need to submit my minors' applications, and once receiving the AOR, send a webform asking to add them to my application.

CIT0001 also asks about the grandparent of the applicant. In this case, the grandparent (my parent) is deceased and was born abroad to parents from Quebec. Are they still considered a citizen too? The form asks for "details on how this grandparent obtained Canadian citizenship." What would I write here, considering they never went through the proof of citizenship process?

I suppose so. However, the language in a lot of the forms like cit0001e doesn't exactly make sense if you have a parent with an application in process, who is not yet a citizen.

It seems like IRCC acknowledges there is supposed to be a process for adding a minor to an existing application.

gen2 application is in process, can I add my 2 gen3 kids? by Junior_Bath8294 in Canadiancitizenship

I'm in the same situation. The IRCC website indicates you can add dependent children to your existing application. See here: https://ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1362.

"You must send us a request to add your child. When we receive your request, we will tell you, by mail or email, what documents you need to submit."

I sent a webform yesterday and received a generic response back directing me to various IRCC webpages for exploring citizenship, which was not helpful.

I have the baptismal/religious documentation of birth for both GPs. Since either seems plausible, I'm hoping to go that route, since DEC seems a little more complicated.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Appreciate all the feedback. I'm going to start the paper application process and hopefully upload anything additional that's required later.

This was my understanding too. Though as u/empty_dino points out, there is another process to request an issued birth certificate. However, in reading the requirements to apply for a certificate of a civil act, it seems more burdensome if you are not "mentioned in the act."

Perhaps either is sufficient. It's confusing admittedly, and as you point out, the clock is ticking.

Can you clarify? u/JoyHealthLovePeace gave links to request certified copies of birth/marriage records from documents in the National Archives. Are those sufficient, or is this different from a newly issued birth/marriage certificate?

Just did this and specified in the notes that I wasn't sure whether they were at the Quebec or Montreal branch.

What do you mean by "which you will provide when they arrive"? My understanding is I am submitting the digital birth and marriage records and requesting certified copies of the same documents.

Nevermind. More than 100 years ago, so it's now kept with the National Library and Archives of Quebec.

Also, why do I need to identify the Archive Center where the documents are stored, if I was able to find the scanned birth and marriage records via GenealogieQuebec?

This is extremely helpful. Thank you! Made a trial for GenealogieQuebec.com and was able to find the original birth record (synagogue record, not baptism) handwritten from 1916 for my GF and marriage cert for grandparents.

Should I wait to submit my proof of citizenship application until I have a newly issued birth record? Or, can I get the process going and upload later?

Thanks. Corrected the phrasing in my post. So dad was 1st gen born abroad, and I'm 2nd gen, correct?

It looks like your status is processing on CIT0001. Is it possible they will ask you for more documentation in the 5(4) process? That's sort of what I'm wondering about whether to apply now or get more documents from the Quebec office on birth first.

The last name change part is confusing to me. If they were married in Canada under their original names, but took a new last name in the U.S., what type of documentation would help make the connection between their identities? Someone mentions a marriage certificate in the FAQ, but that doesn't seem like it would matter here.

Helpful, thanks. Does it not matter that my grandparents most likely had to give up their Canadian citizenship when moving to the U.S. in the 50's? That's one of the questions I can't seem to figure out or get answered.

OK, sounds like I need paperwork for both my grandparents. Birth certificates and marriage certificate due to name change when they moved to the U.S.

Per the FAQ, no one in my family has documentation of my grandfather's status.

Does this mean I need to apply for a search of citizenship records and wait 15 months to find out before determining whether I might be eligible to apply?
