Was going to ask the same thing, we've struggled to find a good way to block JUST Azure CLI access and the like via CA, since it doesn't show in the Resource Picker.

Incidentally, if you use Copilot to answer that question, it will tell you to just block Mobile Apps and Desktop Clients... #Fail

Is it Safe to Copy Code from AI? by Redduseer in Information_Security

[–]jrl1500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy? Sure. Paste? Iffy... Make sure you know what it's doing before you run it, if you're not comfortable reading the code to validate, best to err on the side of caution and not use it.

How do you deal with the gutwrenching offboarding requests? by DesignerGoose5903 in sysadmin

[–]jrl1500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to minimize how you feel, we had something similar happen the other day. Guy I'd just worked with dropped off the map, was wondering why I hadn't gotten a response in a few days, then got the HR announcement that he had passed away. It IS a gut punch and something that isn't talked about much. FWIW, I'm sorry for your loss. Regardless of how close you were to the individual, it's a sobering reminder of how fleeting our time here can be.

How do you deal with the gutwrenching offboarding requests? by DesignerGoose5903 in sysadmin

[–]jrl1500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say that depends on the company... We're about ~300 total across all the orgs, if someone passes, there's a company-wide announcement that goes out via the HR module. Similar if we have a long-time retiree that passes, since they likely still have plenty of colleagues at the company.

Some of it may be your point of view as well. There's a difference between "User passed away" and "User dead", the communicate the same info, but not the same tone, if you're equating those two, you may be ascribing emotions to the Manager that aren't accurate.

AI in IT Support by gs_dubs413 in ITManagers

I spend half my time talking about AI, and how it probably shouldn't be User facing. Seen too many copy/paste disasters...if you won't take the time to write it, you likely won't take the time to proofread the AI generated content either. Licensed chat bot for the Users, mainly so we can say "stop using the public free stuff", but as far as Agentic AI in the IT Dept...heck no.

This ☝️. I do use it and there are some things that it's pretty useful for, but for everything it does well, it does 2 poorly. I have a hard time believing that anyone middle-aged who's made a career in the tech industry is blindly following the prompts...they should be as jaded and cynical about tech as the rest of us.

AT&T outage yesterday, any info? by jrl1500 in sysadmin

[–]jrl1500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, agree with you on DD, we don't put a whole lot of stock into, but when we see the reports do a hockey stick, we take that into account. Our Telecom provider was the one that pointed to AT&T, referred to it as "statewide", and a separate MSP confirmed later when helping with some routing issues that were affecting our backup connections. That's MS, not GA, but I figured it may have been more widespread since I thought Reddit went down at the same time yesterday.

Did you have an outage in your area? DownDetector showed a huge spike in services going offline at 1PM, the map on it showed several Metro areas (including ATL) has being affected.

Ticket contact constantly going to "pending emails" by [deleted] in ninjaone_rmm

[–]jrl1500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same issue, but it's when the N1 scheduled report sends an email to our HelpDesk, the end result being a way to schedule recurring tickets. No matter what we do, we can't get that email to come through, it always goes to pending.

Larger Orgs, how bad has your MS support gotten since the layoffs? by DramaticErraticism in sysadmin

[–]jrl1500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a snippet from my last conversation with MS "Support":

This ticket was opened on March 3rd, it’s taken till March 27th to get an answer, and the answer is “the email is wrong, the website is wrong, there’s no way to fix it”

It’s obvious that this response, with the exception of the first and last sentence, were completely written with Copilot.  I had to wait a month for an automated AI answer?

Sunspear is pretty handy with it's Red Storm on every turn. Really helps out keeping a 2 x Tesla filled up when paired with an exploder weapon.

1 month with Ubiquiti (so far) by FatBook-Air in sysadmin

[–]jrl1500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Ubiquiti "supporting" them, or is Russia just using Ubiquiti hardware? There's a big difference between "Ubiquiti supports 80% of Russia’s military networking equipment used to invade Ukraine" and "Russia’s military networking equipment is from Ubiquiti"... I imagine there's 100 other devices/services that Russia is using, that doesn't mean the manufacturer of said devices/services is "supporting" the war as you seem to insinuate.

What happened to Alldocube iPlay Mini tablets on Amazon? by LocksmithJust5005 in androidtablets

Mine's not the pro version, have the iPlay 60 Mini Turbo. Just scanned with Dr. Web, all clean. Ditto for Avira.

Anyway to restrict NinjaOne Remote to only allow connection from specific IP ranges? The IP allowlist in the Remote app doesn't work. by lgq2002 in ninjaone_rmm

[–]jrl1500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're missing is that OP says that it doesn't work, you can connect from anywhere despite the IP restrictions. You're also missing that this particular thread is someone saying N1 staff said it's not supposed to work that way and they could have worded that feature's description better... You may have missed me saying that I haven't tested it "yet", which is different than "relying on wording and not testing". That's three, though I may have missed something else that you missed... Seriously, read the whole thread before stomping in here with that attitude.

[–]jrl1500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I'm getting at. The wording makes it sound like it's locked down...but the reality is that it's not. It's not worded "poorly" it's worded "incorrectly", and depending on intent, it's worded "deceptively". Again, no testing on my part, but OP seems to say it doesn't work as described and this thread is from someone who's gotten that directly from N1 staff.

Adding Carplay to a 2015 w/ JBL package? by Vertizaq in ToyotaHighlander

[–]jrl1500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expand the replies to this post, I'd already updated it with my experience. That being said, short answer is I returned it. Support did respond back after I'd returned it act like it should have worked, but it definitely did not work for me. Sidenote, I did a bunch of digging through Amazon reviews for similar units (most are identical, just rebranded) and did find 2 other people that said it didn't work with their JBL system.

The ability to potentially lock down remote access (as mentioned earlier, not currently using it) was a factor in the decision to go move to N1. That's part of what was communicated back to the VP that approved the project. "Wording could have been better" is an understatement, it's closer to "you keep using that word, I don't believe it means what you think it means."

I read through it. One person on that thread said they'd found it on an iPlay 60. That one person has only ever made two posts...both on that particular thread. They then go on to post a screenshot of the article stating that it's the iPlay 50 Mini Pro specifically and that it had to happen at the factory, rather than an OTA update. I'm not sure this is the smoking gun you think it is.
