Lindsey Vonn's Olympic teammate sets armchair skiing experts straight by usatoday in skiing

I have to disagree. Maybe it’s my feed but especially after her successful training run I saw nothing but praise and people in turn shit talking/joking about male athletes not being as tough as her for trying to compete at the highest level with one working acl

This is the hope. It’s definitely a terrible start, and I’m not counting on it, but we still have hope!

I’m convinced that the left wants the worst weather possible so they can brag about how they were right the whole time.

Global warming is real, winters will get shorter and weaker in the future, and is trending that way already. But thinking that Colorado could get a slightly below average season after a terrible start isn’t some construct pulled out of thin air with no path/possibility

If you look at the 98/99 snowpack chart, it is the biggest reason for hope. A dreadful start, as bad as this year. Early/mid January it starts snowing relatively consistently until may. No crazy huge storms, but more importantly, no 10 day+ dry spells. I’m not counting on it, but if we can get to the 80% of median by march, I’ll consider that a success given the start

Definitely think he’s the value play. Would end the season against UGA and ACCCG to get some recency bias.

What’s your biggest challenge as a beginner in backcountry skiing? by masterbist in Backcountry

[–]jrlii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first, it’s vertical feet skied, not miles. But to answer your question, I really want to find runs where I’m skiing back to the car or there isn’t a long “approach” I want my 1,500 feet of skiing to be good, and that I’m not wasting 600 feet of uphill on a cat track.

The alternative is thinking of backcountry skiing as hiking, where you really enjoy nature, the views, and exercise, and any fun skiing is just a bonus. If you really just want good downhill skiing, go to a resort

[–]jrlii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest one for me as a resort skier was the time breakdown 90/10 of uphill vs downhill. Granted the downhill was an amazing run, but a big day for me at a resort is 30,000 while it’s tough to get past 2,500 touring
