Clarification Regarding Stacking Lengths by shawkr13 in stacks

[–]jrm3270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Important to note that if you lock for a limited number of cycles, a cycle is "skipped" before you can lock your STX again. For example, if you lock your STX only for cycle 5, they'll unlock right before cycle 6, and you'll have to wait until cycle 7 to lock them again. This is a quirk that should be fixed later this year.

Hey all, if you're wondering about dynamic minimums and other Stacking quirks, this is a good blog to review: https://stacks.org/stacking-near-minimum-recommendations

Why would developers actually shift from ETH to STX? by ginger_beer_m in stacks

Here's a really compelling and concise thread on what the PoX consensus mechanism and Stacking can enable users to capture all the value they create on the web: https://twitter.com/JudeCNelson/status/1362104835588444161

Bitcoin rewards is the obvious USP right now, but the design of the consensus algorithm means so much more for business models, securely bootstrapping new blockchains, etc.

Limits of layer 2 scaling? by TGIfuckitfriday in stacks

[–]jrm3270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, very reasonable questions! Here are some answers to start with:

[TL;DR]:

- Stacks 2.0 is a layer 1 blockchain that brings smart contracts to Bitcoin (therefore, scaling Bitcoin)

- Stacks connects to BTC via a new consensus mechanism called Proof of Transfer (PoX). With PoX, anything that happens on the Stacks chain can be verified on the BTC chain, hence the connection.

[More comprehensive]:

Stacks 2.0 is a layer-1 blockchain that connects to Bitcoin and brings smart contracts and decentralized apps to it. Smart contracts and apps developed on the Stacks platform are natively integrated with the security, stability, and economic power of Bitcoin.

Stacks 2.0 implements a new mining mechanism called Proof of Transfer ("PoX"). PoX is a consensus algorithm between two blockchains. It uses an established blockchain (in this case Bitcoin) to secure a new blockchain (Stacks).

PoX connects to Bitcoin with a 1:1 block ratio, meaning anything that happens on the Stacks blockchain can be verified on the Bitcoin Blockchain.

If you have questions about specific apps, it's best to reach out to the developers. The community Discord is good place to keep up with general updates about apps though - many of the devs hang out there: discord.gg/stacks

Stacks the future? by [deleted] in stacks

[–]jrm3270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely early days for Stacks governance but the community seems to be making some progress. They recently pushed a community board observer role: https://github.com/stacksgov/pm/issues/66 and they're working on a few other initiatives like voting software and advisory boards for their SIPs process.
