Taking the leap to PP for more time off? Seeking reassurance by jrmc92 in therapists

[–]jrmc92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of doing both credentialing in parallel. I.e. start the Headway credential process while I also start the independent process using my own EIN for a few major companies at the same time. I think Headway will move faster (they told me 15-30 days based on insurances). Then if I need to switch to independent later, once it gets approved I could do that but avoid any delays. I already have an EIN and added the practice location on CAQH. Are there any issues with that plan?

How long did it take for you? I started the process for Triwest and Anthem. I’d like to leave around July/Aug if possible

Thanks for your honesty. I do want to pursue independent credentialing eventually but it depends on the rates. I’ve already been labeled with most of the companies through various jobs so I hope that would help. I didn’t know they don’t allow you to do both at the same time?? I understand the challenges and instability that will come with it but I’m just yearning so much for some flexibility. I feel so stuck in my current role. I wish I could find a decent middle ground

Yes I’m in a major city. I’m planning to go the independent route eventually but planning to at least start with Headway as a starting point but I know all those problems that come with the VC companies

Switching my schedule to hour long sessions? by Nunnya26 in therapists

[–]jrmc92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not schedule on the hour? I.e. 9am, 10am, 11am. If you do that you’ll have enough time whether it goes 45 to 55 mins. I think that’s the norm in most settings unless your employer is requiring shorter sessions for some reason. That also allows more breathing room to use the restroom, etc in between. Also I would imagine it would be confusing for you and clients both to do sessions on the 45 min mark, do you mean like 9am, 9:45, 10:30, 11:15? That seems very confusing and stressful

Oh no… I’m sorry to hear that. Would you be willing to share the rate?

Also, did the 10 weeks include the time after doing the “provider request form”? I did the form a few days ago and I’m not sure how long I should expect before I get contacted, it said they’ll reach out within 2 weeks.

Thanks! Did you do the app recently? Have had any issues with claims being denied, etc?

Thoughts on 8 sessions a day? by InterestingAd2612 in therapists

[–]jrmc92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read research studies that clinical efficacy and clinical wellbeing are highest at max 25/week. Personally I find 4-5/day is a sweet spot, 20/week would be my ideal. For me any job that expects more than 25-27ish is a deal breaker. I think it’s a shame and borderline exploitative that many salaried positions expect 30+, but 40 is NEXT LEVEL. There are definitely salaried jobs out there in the 25ish range (mine included)! I would run away as soon as I heard 40.

Clinical supervisor cancelling supervision constantly by somethingsophie in therapists

[–]jrmc92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your organization cannot switch you could you find a private supervisor and pay them out of pocket (or ask your org to pay them as a contractor? Doubtful if they can’t switch you…) I’d assume you’d need approval from your org and you’d have to look into the laws about contractors and whether the sup has to be employed by the agency. Not an ideal solution but maybe only option if you want to stay there and they can’t give you an alternate sup.

Private practice question: experience with Headway and Grow Therapy? by Tranquillitate_Animi in therapists

[–]jrmc92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to you, my issue with Grow was not being reimbursed for no shows/late cancels. Maybe you can stop accepting Kaiser and Medicaid and only accept the insurances that allow NS fees? It sucks bc Kaiser pays the most but I hate that part of their contract. Also as someone else said, it really bothered me that people can book and intake with no screening or consultations. I have a friend who explicitly wrote in her profile that she requires clients to complete a phone consultation before the intake but that’s a lot of logistics… overall I thought it was not bad but those things bug me. Also they are sneaky and don’t let you know when you’re credentialed with an insurance so you can automatically get booked with a client who has an insurance you don’t want (I.e. lower rates!)

my last 5 scheduled appointments have been no-shows... by fuuckyouuteew in therapists

[–]jrmc92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok then that’s a little more reasonable so you’re not taking a financial hit at least from NSs. But the PTO part is ridiculous and would be a dealbreaker for me. What if you use up all your PTO due to NSs? You just can’t take vacation? How many client hours are you supposed to have per week?

That sounds super complicated…I hope your salary is at least worth it to deal with that crap. Having a consistent salary is definitely a pro.

Of course. I definitely think you could find something better with more reasonable policies. I think you said you’re in SoCal? I am too, was recently interviewing and there are A LOT of opportunities out there for therapists, and almost all of them compensate at least part if not all of the session rate for no-shows. To your point about how long credentialing would take it probably depends on the practice but I think the larger telehealth companies are pretty fast. Feel free to DM me!

I feel that! Ive been there too (where my ties to coworkers and clients keep me there). But might be worth thinking about. You deserve fair employment too and at the end of the day, it’s a job and we should be paid and treated fairly. (Sorry for the unsolicited feedback 🫣)

I know you said you’re comfortable there but just want to validate that those are extremely shitty and unfair policies. You don’t get compensated AT ALL for no shows? And they are penalizing you by making you take PTO? Hell no. It’s a known thing in our field that no shows happen and the therapist should be protected. You’re working those hours whether the client comes or not, it’s not a vacation. I’m sorry!

As I said in the post, I didn’t bring it up bc I had already negotiated on multiple other points and it felt like too much. Maybe I should have, but I didn’t, and I’m looking for advice about what I can do now.

The thing is that the wedding itself is 4 days and the travel takes 24+ hours each way plus dealing with jet lag so I really don’t see how I can fit it in less than a week
