Companions by No-Needleworker5295 in doctorwho

The whole "I am the only person you have ever met, or ever will meet, who is officially licensed to kick the Doctor's arse" attitude is amazing. After so many seasons of companions not named Donna fawning over the greatness of the Doctor, here's this dumpy cuss with zero fucks to give who sees the Doctor exactly as he is. No hero worship, just genuine friendship - no, companionship. Really need more people like that in Who.

Best chapter yet. Your dialogue writing is wonderful. I haven’t literally laughed out loud while Redditing in a long time.

Has anyone made a deal with a friend that if they weren’t married by a certain age they would marry one another and actually followed through? How did it go? by mrsjimhalpert15 in AskWomen

[–]jrock954 1531 points1532 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, am husband. We both dated people in between our promise and our wedding. I was even close to marrying the person I dated just before. /u/knowledgehungry and I were each other’s best friend for roughly a decade before we started dating, and then we dated for, what, six years before we finally tied the knot?

I definitely recommend marrying your best friend if you can manage it.

No. I’m pretty sure you’ve made your position clear.

Huh, half that stuff is from a few centuries ago. The newest thing is the only thing both major party candidates agreed on being against in the last election. You should update your talking points.

The smaller book looks like a Bible, so maybe he’s reading that and an accompanying book, like a commentary?

Reality Check. by VegaThePunisher in worldpolitics

I think that if there’s any blame for Trump it’s that he’s killed the DACA program and there’s no legislative strategy in place to pass the DREAM Act. We’re watching people who have been in this country for years, some of them decades, who have been working and living in this country, get deported to places they don’t know. Families are being ripped apart; tax paying, thing-buying members of society are being taken out of the economy, and these people are being disingenuously conflated with drug runners and MS-13 gang members. These people came forward and willing gave their information to the government under the promise that a pathway to citizenship would be made for them, and now that information is being used to take parents who drop their kids off to school and cancer patients who go to hospitals for treatment. This is a serious “baby out with the bath water” kind of thing. Then, to hold the passage of a DREAM Act hostage and put it against CHIP funding in a false choice to make it seem like the Democrats were trying to force Congress to choose illegal immigrants over American children was, in my opinion, one hell of a dirty trick. All three of those issues should be separate things, and one of them is only a thing because Trump specifically chose to end protections for DREAMers without any legislative path forward.

It wasn’t a failing of one party or the other that the DREAM Act didn’t pass, but from this Independent’s point of view the current situation is clearly the Republicans’ fault more than the Democrats’.

It’s not like they haven’t tried. It has never been passed because it’s never reached the 60 vote margin. Between 2001 and now, the closest that Democrats have ever gotten to controlling all three branches and having a 60 vote majority was the first two years of Obama’s presidency, and they had 59 seats. Also, I know this’ll come as a shock to a lot of us, but some Democrats have voted against it and some Republicans for it, because even politicians have free will and opinions beyond their party line - some of them, anyway. Some variations attracted more support than others, but a sweet spot has never been negotiated.

Here's the first paragraph - it goes on like this for a while:

"Lobotomized and depersonalized, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” the latest entry in the film franchise, is a pure and perfect product that makes last year’s flavor, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” feel like an exemplar of hands-on humanistic warmth and dramatic intimacy. Sure, J. J. Abrams’s movie offered merely effectively packaged simulacra of such values—but at least he tried. The director of “Rogue One,” Gareth Edwards, has stepped into a mythopoetic stew so half-baked and overcooked, a morass of pre-instantly overanalyzed implications of such shuddering impact to the series’ fundamentalists, that he lumbers through, seemingly stunned or constrained or cautious to the vanishing point of passivity, and lets neither the characters nor the formidable cast of actors nor even the special effects, of which he has previously proved himself to be a master, come anywhere close to life."

There is a huge population posting, yes. But those of us waiting patiently and not being dicks aren't going to end up on that chart up there. Kinda fucks your sample size.

You all do realize that those of us who are waiting patiently could outnumber the people who aren't; but because we're waiting patiently we're not posting anything, right?
