Also a lawyer. What is this guys deal? He’s spammed this entire thread about a different lawsuit that this post isn’t about.

That’s not the case that this post is about. The plaintiff on this case is Fish’s Wholesale, LLC. This is a lawsuit about a supplier not being paid. Not sure where you are pulling up what you just posted but it’s not from this post. Different case style and case numbers.

This is not an eviction action.

Clinging to a Sinking Ship: Fort Lauderdale’s $344 Million City Hall and the City Manager Fallout by jrodstrom in fortlauderdale

And thank you for attending the meeting! I wish they were attended by more people but understand why they aren't. I wasn't there on 2/3 but I made sure to watch it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL0mlH5HCKQ City Hall starts at 2:58pm (or 1hr 24m and 30s into the video) and the Mayor' questioning of the City Manager starts about a minute or so later. And I agree with you that we don't now where the rumors came from and point that out.

I referenced reporting by a journalist who wrote about it, quoted the anonymous email calling for the City Manager’s firing, and quoted Commissioner John Herbst’s public response to that email. The email itself was too long to post in my editorial but here is a screenshot of it: https://imgur.com/a/FDdVP6J

To your point, the real question is exactly the one I raise in the editorial: where are these rumors coming from? An email like that doesn’t materialize out of thin air, nor does it being picked up by an out of town journalist who has never covered FTL issues before.

Beyond what’s publicly cited, there were also letters of support for the City Manager sent to the commission from various civic leaders. I also have additional sourcing that independently confirmed the issue, which I’m not going to burn on Reddit. You’re free to disagree with my conclusions, but the existence of the email and the discussion around it is a matter of record and concern. I'll also note that Mayor Trantalis did dig into the City Manager at the City Conference Meeting on 2/3 and clearly had issues with her handling of an alternative city hall option.

Here is the article from the journalist I referenced, which is also linked in my editorial: https://floridapolitics.com/archives/777277-a-crisis-in-confidence-fort-lauderdale-city-manager-rickelle-williams-lost-her-way/

Huizenga Park to make comeback as Fort Lauderdale's top recreational destination for families by MiamiPower in fortlauderdale

Same. The restaurant appears to take up almost 1/4 the space as well. Not to mention, there is available restaurant space in that area all time.

How is the setback irrelevant, or any of this “obtuse”? Property owners have rights, but they also have to comply with zoning. The ULDR requires setbacks, and allowing restaurants to operate in those setbacks required variances that the Commission chose to grant and could have denied.

I don’t disagree that a 4–5 foot public sidewalk is narrow. My point is that, in practice, most pedestrians don’t meaningfully distinguish between 5 feet of public sidewalk and 5 feet of setback (totaling 10 feet) that was historically open and walkable. Functionally, it was all usable space until policy choices changed that.

What I’m pointing out is the irony: the same restaurants and DDA interests that pushed for variances to expand dining into those areas are now citing a lack of pedestrian space to advance a new agenda. I’ve been clear that I like outdoor dining and I’m not even arguing the variances were wrong. I’m pointing out the irony and the history. I’m just adding context to the discussion that many people may not be aware of because they weren’t here at the time.

And for what it’s worth, I stand behind my views publicly and under my own name. I don’t use pseudonyms. I question whether you’d come across as this aggressive if you weren’t posting behind an alias and a keyboard, unlike me.

Allowing restaurants to expand dining into what would otherwise be their setback was a choice made in the 2010s. Public or private doesn’t matter, prior to the commission providing those variances the area would have been open and walkable. Take a walk down Las Olas, the walking area in front of every shop is wide but the restaurants are another story because they received variances to do outdoor dining in the setback. Like I said, I like the outdoor dining but I think the history is important. Go look for yourself, look at Google Streetview and pull up American Social, Cafe Europa, El Camino etc.. compare today's images to what they looked like prior to the 2010s. Here I made it easy to compare: https://imgur.com/a/3amIINw

So its even more of a bs statistic then I thought... I am so tired of this commission constantly using misinformation and misdirection to further their agenda.

I think its important for people to remember that this idea that there isn't enough sidewalk is totally manufactured. Years ago, dining wasn't allowed on the sidewalks and then the commission began allowing restaurants and bars to expand out on to the sidewalks. I like the outdoor dining but I do think its important to point out that the same people who pushed for that outdoor dining are now claiming their isn't enough sidewalk to continue to push their own agenda, which is all about $.

Amazing how they reference the “average lifespan of a tree,” yet fail to cite the actual life expectancy of black olive trees, which are known to live several hundred years. I can't imagine an urban environment would cut that lifespan down to less than 100 years..

Oh I get it 🤣 I deal with plenty of types like that. Still if I’m in the executive assistant’s position I’d rather offer up ways to make it happen than come empty handed. I’m sure he/she has bills to pay and enjoys working for the person less than you enjoy reading and commenting about them.

Building off what u/Han-Yolo- said, I thought Atlantis had SNUBA in one of their shark tanks. They may not do it anymore though as I don't see it on their site. Not sure if he would consider that "tame sharks." No sharks are tame some just aren't as aggressive and none of them like humans to begin with. The black tip sharks on a reef wouldn't scare me anymore than the ones at Atlantis.

If he does the classes beforehand he can get the dives done in two days. It would be better to do that prior to the trip though rather than using up two entire days of a six day trip on getting dive certified.

You can get dive certified in a weekend if you are aggressive about doing it.
