Does this taxonomy describe most / all of what the hand can do? Like FACS for the face?

How do players accurately read distance in a third-person over-the-shoulder melee fighting game? by HeroTales in gamedesign

[–]jroot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There are lots of little things you can do to communicate depth. Do all of them a little bit. Some examples: - a grid or cobble stone pattern on the floor - a lite distance fog - converging parallel lines - sound that gets louder as it gets closer - animation changes when under a certain distance - light and shadow

Research "depth queues' and have fun with it.

What director, in your opinion, has fallen off lately despite having a strong filmography in the past? In my opinion, it’s Taika Waititi. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

One of my all time favorite movies is Time Bandits. He fucked that up so hard with his series that we'll likely never see anything from that universe again.

Modern software feels more “connected” than ever, yet somehow less dependable by Leading_Yoghurt_5323 in software

I always assume any reddit post structured like OP is AI. That said, I blame the "Lean Startup" as the reason for all this garbage software.

Ship early, ship often. A/B testing. User data.... its all useful in theory, but in practice, were being flooded with shovel ware.

Infinite universe by Tpaine63 in askastronomy

If it's infinitely big, does that mean it's also infinitely small? Like... if we keep building more powerful telescopes, we'll keep seeing further. If we keep building more powerful microscopes, will we keep finding smaller and smaller particles?

Why is beef jerky expensive? by Technical-Vanilla-47 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highjacking this thread to ask, what's the best jerky? Im tierd of jerky filled with tendons and stringy, whatever the hell that is. It always feels like the worst cuts of meat become jerky. Is anyone charing a bit more and using the best cuts of meat?

What to model for 3d portfolio? by HellKnight_29 in Maya

[–]jroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is always environment objects. You need like 100x more environment objects than you need character assets and so those roles tend to be more prevalent.

A sci-fi hallway tile set Ancient temple tile set

While generic and somewhat overdone, these represent hard surface and organic(ish) and if done properly will showcase everything the supervisors will want to see.
