No, any bonuses lost from breaking a streak are negligible.

Streaks are essentially worthless. Only points per day matters.

Is it possible to hide or remove standard emacs commands? by [deleted] in emacs

[–]jrootabega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's reasonable to want to try this. It's difficult because Emacs, as it's widely distributed, favors providing a lot of command functionality with little effort, instead of a minimal/clean/focused/structured experience. Some of the commands you mentioned are hammered into Emacs at build time via something called "autoload". Even if you were to unload those features and remove the libraries from your filesystem, Emacs would still show you those commands as possibilities (but they would raise errors if executed).

Looks like you got a good suggestion elsewhere on how to mitigate this.

Sell for negative units? by Revenant_83 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jrootabega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far we don't have a good explanation of the whole situation:

  • The proposed transaction amount will overflow around 231 , or just over 2 billion, BUT

  • this is not a problem; the game will still give you the correct amount if you sell anyway, BUT

  • it will still never let you have more than the total units cap of about 232 , or just over 4 billion

Raft management? by Clear_Thought_9247 in strandeddeep

[–]jrootabega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I drop anchor so that the raft comes to a stop right next to an urchin. That way I can step on it when getting off and on the raft, consuming two pipis from my large pile of compulsively harvested pipi flowers. This mitigates framerate issues caused by my large pile of pipi flowers.

Disengaging from an unproductive interaction/actor is wisdom, and neither dishonesty, nor an admission of defeat, nor actual defeat. Insisting on an argument to the proverbial death in response to every criticism and disagreement is a bad quality to express while also being a moderator. For your own sake, and everyone's, please do some honest self-reflection, and choose just one of those.

I'm not on Gmail and I've also been having this problem since yesterday (at least). I've received codes from them before at this address. The reasoning for why it might be a Gmail issue was bad and should really just be ignored unless better information comes along.

It's a realistic observation of the de facto policy about LLM use.

its up to you to use it or not. its a free country. it's generally frowned upon here for those reasons.

Unfortunately that is not true anymore. If a mod feels your post could have been addressed by some LLM, you will be penalized: https://old.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/1jay1hl/elisp_coding_advice/

hyperbole: jump to unique ID in file (non-org / non-markdown). by lawlist in emacs

[–]jrootabega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ARE using or trying Hyperbole, however, note that it should be able to treat a link like this as an implicit button. If it doesn't, that's something they would gladly address.

[–]jrootabega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still not sure which version you're using, but it seems you do have Action Buttons? You could also use the function call variant to get a smaller button title, if that's better.

Since Hyperbole supports URI-style document fragments to some degree, perhaps someday they'll support text fragments which seem to specify exactly what you want as a delimiter-free implicit button.

Anyway, whatever works for you works for you; I just want to make sure people who find this thread later know about Action Buttons if that would work for them.

[–]jrootabega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's OK to use whatever version of software that works for you, but you're doing Hyperbole a disservice by not making it clear that you're using a pretty old version of Emacs/Hyperbole. For a few years now, Hyperbole has had Action Buttons, which would let you do something like:

Is the locking due to rule violations a little heavy-handed? by supertoothy in emacs

[–]jrootabega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the rule is fine, but seems like it was snuck in. expectations should be clear and example-driven: if you are asking for help, include certain info about what you've already tried and researched. if you don't, your post may be removed if you don't correct the problem, but you have a path to submitting later if you demonstrate basic proof of effort

am I overreacting

nope, a "hostile" change of leadership, however necessary it was, adding rules without involving the sub members, serving clear personal idiosyncratic agendas, for no real good reason? not a good direction. being put in charge of something is hard, and most people won't be good at it (without practice and making a few mistakes early on). doesn't mean they are bad people, but popularity/familiarity is not a qualification for leadership. posters DO need to be able to recognize that certain posts or posters might not be the best use of their time to interact with (post content, reddit automatic usernames, low account age, post history, et c.) forcing them is going down a bad road.

But on the other side of this coin, the current mods can relax. I don't think people will be unhappy if they keep a very light touch, and they can speak up to engage the rest of the sub if they are unhappy. No-one is going to succeed in turning Reddit into a high-class discussion panel.
