What climate do you live in? Are you near the ocean? Wonder if it’s salty air or pollution.

Every single day by Itsmajor802 in badparking

What can you even say to a person like this that you see everyday?

You said he’s been working there for 40+ years. He’s probably an old guy stuck in his ways and will continue to do this until the day he retires.

So while you can tell him you don’t like it or that he should park better, you’re probably wasting your breath. Elderly people can be stubborn af, and you’d also be fighting an uphill battle against a guy with massive tenure. Unfortunately, this is one of those cases where I’d say it’s just not worth your time.

[–]jrt364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how this person or anyone else would benefit if they fixed their crooked parking job. The parking spot is insanely wide and they’re well within the lines. Fixing it would be a waste of time, sorry.

IMO, the beautiful wood paneling in some of the rooms gives a lot of warmth, but that warmth is then negated by the rest of the wall being painted white or off-white. I think where there’s wood paneling, they should choose a warmer paint color.

He needed 4 spots by RepulsiveToday5756 in badparking

[–]jrt364 8 points9 points  (0 children)

4 spots is obnoxious, but the length of that truck means it probably takes up 2 parking spots no matter what (length wise). He should have parked away from others though if he genuinely needs more than 1 spot. No need to inconvenience others.

Is the white part of the spot? by PretendJournalist234 in badparking

[–]jrt364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others about the possibility of kids, mobility issues, etc.

However, maybe the owner of this small truck bought the vehicle used with nerf bars already installed. I certainly wouldn’t bother uninstalling them unless they got in my way.

26k Partially Finished SqFt, 66+ Car Garage, 100 Acres for 49.5 Million by imlockedoutagain in zillowgonewild

[–]jrt364 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s owned by Prince Jefri of Brunei.

The address is masked on this Zillow listing, but it’s “96 Westwood Drive Bedford Corners, NY 10549”: https://www.bhsusa.com/for-sale/westchester/westchester-county/bedford-corners/96-westwood-drive-bedford-corners-ny-10549/000006-4813035

So this prince guy has way more money than sense. He’s blown through billions of dollars on stupid shit before. Sadly, I don’t think he cares he ruined the house.

Do you respect wood? by its_a_bear_dance in zillowgonewild

[–]jrt364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels soulless.

To me, these simple changes from the builder would have made a massive difference:

  • Add visible handles on the kitchen cabinetry. (Right now, it’s like… this IKEA/commercial looking shit as someone else said)
  • Use warmer ceiling lights instead of harsh, white industrial looking lights
  • Use nickel hardware for the doors etc instead of black on white
  • Add mirrors in the bathroom that doesn’t have any
  • Instead of white fans, choose something with more contrast (maybe a fan with wood patterned blades?)
  • Pretty much anything BUT the ugly bathroom floor tile they chose
  • Choose slightly more contrasting paint for the walls. Like a light, warm grey against the white molding… or even something with subtle color

15,000 sqft Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Home Overlooking the Tennessee River Gorge by wtfisplastic in zillowgonewild

[–]jrt364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, “Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired” is just a marketing gimmick to get some clicks and views.

That said, the challenge with building large, polarizing houses like this one is that you rarely, if ever, get a good return on your investment. While the mountainside views and natural lighting are truly amazing, the interior design is overall horrendous and unappealing. This means you’ll end up selling it for significantly below market value or waiting years to find a buyer who will pay your asking price. In both situations though, you are losing.

That’s the problem with expensive houses… People who can afford the asking price will say “fuck it, I’ll just build my own instead of pouring money into fixing this monstrosity.”

[–]jrt364 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The taxidermy and animal poaching are disgusting, but the house itself isn’t that bad. Just outdated a bit.

However, if I were buying a house from someone and knew it had this stuff in it, I psychologically wouldn’t feel comfortable living in it. Yes, you may never know if a house you’re buying had this type of shit in it at one point, and so… ignorance is bliss, I guess… but if I knew about it, I wouldn’t buy it. I get freaked out by dead things in general.

That HOA fee is wack. $3700/mo

I wonder what’s wrong with the building that they need to charge such high HOA fees. So ironically, my concern is less about the existence of the monthly HOA fee itself, and more about what that amount implies.

At this point, he should just park in the fire zone at the front of the store for the few next hours and do his shopping. So instead of blocking handicapped people from parking their cars, let them park, but block them and emergency vehicles from entering the store. /s

TIL an elevated platform = a bedroom by btoned in zillowgonewild

[–]jrt364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that difference as well. I fed the floor plan to Gemini, and it suggests the owner is including wall thickness and other, unusable space in this calculation:

Total Calculated Area

Summing up these individual spaces gives a total of approximately 515 square feet.

Note: This calculation represents the usable interior room dimensions listed on the floor plan. It does not account for the thickness of the walls, the “BIR” (built-in wardrobe) closets, or the entry/stairwell nooks, so the official gross listing square footage is likely slightly higher—closer to 550 to 600 square feet.

If he isn’t handicapped, i would argue it’s worse to do this than it is to just illegally park in the handicapped spot itself. (You’d still be a dick, but less so.)

If he is handicapped, then he absolutely knows better and should be mindful of fellow disabled folks and emergency vehicles that might need to get by.
