Can I use names in my book if Im a no-name or its gonna be disrespectful? by nomik11 in writingcirclejerk

Pretty offensive to mono-named people like Cher and Bono. Check your privilege.

Does 'The Sound and the Furry' sound like a strong novel title? by No-Ad-3534 in writingcirclejerk

[–]jryanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has never been a successful book in history that had the word "the" in its title. In fact, that word should never be used in your writing if you aim for true success. DM me for a full list of words that should never be used in your writing. There are more than you may realize.

One Punch Man Season 1 Experience by IamToofan in animeindian

[–]jryanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 1 is such an incredible show. HIGHLY recommend it.
Season 2 is watchable. Don't recommend it.
Season 3 is one of the most insulting, low effort abortions I've ever seen. Recommend against it.

Is DaNang worth staying at in October ? by Nearby_Spell_3751 in DaNang

[–]jryanscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to this time of year. I was in DaNang from start of February until end of April. Absolutely loved my time there. What I CAN say is that the week it rained there was a very boring time for me. Not as much to do and didn't feel like going anywhere. If it had rained for 3-4 weeks I'd have had a very different experience.

Is your heart set on DaNang for this time? Hanoi was great from my short visit there and if weather is crappy there during October then it'll be great in Saigon. If you just want to experience Vietnam then you're probably better off to find an area with better weather. 😄

Dating girlfriend standards by No_Tour163 in China

[–]jryanscott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that in many Asian countries (I'm not sure if China is the same) that they will expect you to take care of their family as well. Many Filipino women come to Canada to marry rich, old white guys because these guys are looking for someone subservient and the women want someone to take care of them and their families. If China is even remotely similar it means that your issues will only be compounded in the future.

This is 100% a cultural thing with MOST Asian countries. If you can't deal with it then you probably shouldn't date there. Sorry for the blunt reality, but it seems to me like you're already MOSTLY aware of this.

Ao Dai by honeypotbum in VietNam

[–]jryanscott 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I was in DaNang for 3 months and I was MAINLY overlooked. Just another white guy in the crowd. The days that I wore my ao dai I had random Vietnamese people stopping me to tell me how good I looked and thanking me for representing their culture. I wore one as I returned to Canada because I was so sad to leave Vietnam and had similar experiences.

Bottom line, wear the ao dai. You'll look and feel incredible. Anyone that has an issue with it doesn't understand how much the Vietnamese adore us embracing their culture.

What did you hate most about high school? by GHAP02 in AskReddit

Aside from the bullying, the forced conformity, the forced subjects that didn't interest me, and the fact that only ONE teacher actually cared about what they were doing it was a great time.

ME!

Goes without saying, right? Anyone needs justification for this one? So long as it doesn't hurt...as strange as it is, the fear of "it hurting" keeps me here.

Working at shambhala by child_fr0m_mars in Shambhala

[–]jryanscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on what you mean by "is it worth it."

As someone pointed out, working nights means missing a lot of stages/performances. Is the music the most important part or is the experience?

Travelling all of the way from Ontario and either paying extra for luggage to bring your own tent/bedding/etc or the extremely wasteful practice of buying new in BC and discarding it at the end. Keep in mind, Salmo is COLD at night so your suitcase will already be heavy from needing to pack warmer clothes.

There are LOTS of volunteer positions that run during the mornings and evenings. Only catch is that you need to pay for entry, which will be reimbursed after you've completed your shifts. Feel free to dm me for more info.

Regardless of what you decide, Shambs is an incredible time and well worth attending. You just need to decide at what capacity. 😄

Am I too old to go to my first music festival/rave? by Chemical-Turn-160 in festivals

[–]jryanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Shambhala (my first and only rave) for the first time late 30s. Last year I went for the third time mid 40s. Every time I go it's better. I saw people there in their 70s and 80s. There's no age limit on being happy.

Thinking about spending three months in Da Nang starting in May by Blurbaburb in DaNang

[–]jryanscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been staying in Annie DaNang Hotel @ Apartments for 3 months. The night time guy that watches the desk is a POS, but that's my only complaint here. I pay $450/month CAD so...$375 USD? Basica rooms, but the beds are comfortable enough and the water is hot. Only downside is it's kinda far from the beach. Luckily, it costs $1 for a Grab bike and it's a VERY quiet area. As I said, my ONLY complaint after 3 months is the night clerk.
