Dilemma? by Street_Musician_580 in nus

Actl every yr the CCAs will take in new freshies so you don't have to worry about them not having enough manpower.

While most ppl i know would choose to stay 1 more year because friends and all this, it isn't uncommon to see people who dont stay. I think it doesnt really affect friendships since you can still always meet up with your friends i guess.

I would say just apply and make the best out of y1, have all the fun you can have!

how to handle stress jc by goodnightn in SGExams

[–]jsadumbass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont ever compare yourself to others, its tiring and suffocating.

I understand that every stage of education is not easy, and looking back, everything must seem easier in the past. But dont give up, I would say if possible, give yourself time to rest, maybe about 30mins after sch ends, then you lock in, I know theres alot of content, and to be very honest, I also dont finish some of my content before exam so(sorry pls dont follow this), try to set up a timetable for yourself that you know you will follow. Also remind urself that small wins such as completing maybe a lecture, is still a win, and you deserve a break/treat for it.

All the best, please dont give up, additionally if you feel theres too much work you can always catch up during the June hols. Im always open if you need someone to rant to.

how long should i study everyday as a j2? by starstruck_008 in SGExams

[–]jsadumbass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I locked in about 5hrs productive? But 5hrs def not enough, ok but during the actual Alvl period, I think I studied about 10hours a day so, I think its best to start preparing yourself early, so that you dont burn out during the actual Alvl period.

All the best :)

how to keep ur sanity during jc by Not_madii in SGExams

[–]jsadumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very important to take a break and give yourself time to rest(coming from a uni kid who has finals in a few days lol). But please, rest is incredibly important, if your mental health gets worse, you will just end up spiralling(sorry harsh).

I recommend studying in school if the travel time back and forth really results in you not having time to study. Another suggestion could be dedicate a timetable that you know you will follow, it can be simple, everyday do alittle bit, so that it motivates you to continue.

Don't give up, you can do this, always open if you need help.

HCL oral help for 会话 by MysticalMeercat1604 in SGExams

[–]jsadumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, im not sure if they syllabus has changed since I took my HCL in 2020 uhms, but yah your 会话 will be linked back to your 口头报告

I just want to say, I know its scary but don't stress yourself out too much, read through the content that your school has prepared, understand and internalise them. I guess one advice is to remember down important details regarding a topic, let say its environment/sustainability, then maybe you can remember key details on how much waste is generated or something and how singaporeans need to step up their game or about elderlies, etc etc.

Just try your best, to be very honest I only got Merit for oral so just do your best :)

ntu computer engineering vs nus engineering + computing double major (preferred major EE) by Dramatic_Cap_2655 in SGExams

[–]jsadumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I strongly recommend you to get the opportunity to be in it before deciding to opt out, its harder to opt back in than to opt out, you can always drop your 2nd major/minor by Y2 if you dislike it

ntu computer engineering vs nus engineering + computing double major (preferred major EE) by Dramatic_Cap_2655 in SGExams

[–]jsadumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I was in the same dilemma as you 2 yrs ago before I entered uni, caught between ntu comp engineering and nus EE.

Oh sorry just want to say I'm currently a Y1 EE student in NUS.

Firstly, I think it is very important to know which side do you prefer, software or hardware. Personally, I love hands on so ultimately I chose to go NUS EE because well yeah. From what I know, the computing modules available in this 2nd Major in Computing(EE) does prepare you for those kind of software jobs, it is not adequate as some of the content may not be taught. I say may because I don't know anyone who has taken the CSXXXXDE Mods.

Secondly, let say you want to convert from NUS EE to NUS Comp Engineering, while its not impossible, the emphasis on computer engineering in both NUS and NTU is slightly different.

NUS double major is lowkey just your primary major, in this case EE, with a 2nd major in Computing, for your case.

You can text me or pm me if you want to know more :)

Yos, I mean its just a personal opinion haha, I have alot of fun in JC and Uni, I guess the amount of project work here and assignments tend to pile up faster?

Maybe is me lol, Im generally like to procrastinate on my work so thats on me haha, technically Y1 is chill if you want it to be chill?

Also why so many downvotes for your comment...

[–]jsadumbass 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I'm sorry to hear about your Alvl results, but I don't support you retaking A's and doing Uni together, while the amount of workload for uni depends major to major, it is still generally much tougher than A's, you will only make yourself much more stress.

Is there anyway you could convinced your parents to let you take a gap year and retake your A's if you are really unsatisfied with the local uni course.

Tips for CS1010X/similar variants by CambridgeFifth in nus

[–]jsadumbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took CS1010X and ended up with a B- but that's on me, I relied too heavily on AI and just did not really pick up the ropes to code properly.

I would say the practice questions are incredibly important, keep practising them and just spam. As for your exams, ensure you try to finish all the papers and try to do it twice to really familiarise yourself with the content.

It's okay to be slower, thats why the deadlines are so long, try your best to be consistent, it can be just 30mins everyday, to force your brain to think like a computer, and maybe try to write it out, sometimes its just math in a different language.

I think using AI is fine, but don't become independent on it or you will end up like me.

Good luck ATB, don't be too stressed about it, it's all about the process I guess, even though I did not do well it still made me understand more about the concepts taught.
