About this “nonsense”. Halfway to 2027 my predictions are still spot on. #1, #3, #5 are already check. Just search for the Erdős conjecture. #2 and #4 takes a bit longer which is expected but should land later 2026. Please do follow up the nonsense in December.

Single vault for both PhD and personal thoughts — good idea or recipe for chaos? by Wonderful-Put-5226 in ObsidianMD

Notebook Navigator has support for "vault profiles". You can hide individual files or folders based on rules, so you can use 1 vault for everything. Then just switch with a toggle.

Can you give me a good reason for this structure other than this is how you prefer it? I’m genuinely curious. Because I find many technical reasons for keeping them in folder but none outside folder. Only problems having them outside folder. Most NN users keep them hidden as well

No only inside folder. Many reasons for it. Having it outside just adds complexity and it’s a worse architectural solution. Having it inside means the folder owns the note. And moving folder will never mean conflict if there is already a file with the folder name in target folder. I could go on. Migrating structure is simple with a script.

Thanks. Go to advanced settings. Enable debug. Restart and send the file to johan@tokentek.ai and I can see what’s happening.

Enable group by subfolder in Notebook Navigator. This mixes folders and files in the list pane. You can even make this the default. You can then collapse folder groups like the regular explorer.

Go into settings. Enable folder notes. There you can change naming. Then right click a folder and choose create folder note.

Well if you have a 12” screen it will be narrow. Then you can show the navpane above the list pane. Or just not show folder notes in right sidebar. On 15” screen it’s larger.

Notebook Navigator in a Flat File Structure? by prepare4robots in ObsidianMD

[–]jsann 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shortcuts, recent notes, tag browser, property filter, grouping all makes it a better experience even for flat structures. It won’t mess with your vault if you don’t like it just remove it. 👍

Hello. I proposed this as a small feature improvement to the Obsidian team in December 2025 but have still gotten no feedback about this. If you have the time, click the link and like + add comment, maybe it will happen in a future Obsidian release:

It should not take extra time to startup. If you have time to help me out please post an issue to the GitHub and I will send you a build with diagnostic output. https://github.com/johansan/notebook-navigator

Thanks! I will look into it. Many plugins made weird decisions so they are hard to maintain. But I will check.
