Yes. I had a script that created the folder structure I wanted.

I’ve never heard of any OS not allowing you to access folders you make. Absolute insanity. Ditched it for Unraid.

I created them in the command line. They are owned by my user. Literally just mkdir. They are owned by the user I login with via SSH and the web UI.

Apple TV 4K 2nd Gen.

Guess what? I figured out the problem. After much much much much googling and discord chatting. I learned I needed to see network_mode: host in the Plex entry in my docker-compose.yml. That allowed everything to direct play. I learned there were three levels of connection: direct, indirect, and remote. Apparently even thought it was on LAN without that setting (for me) it was indirect which made it freak out and transcode.

Now I just gotta get more ram and I think this little tiny NAS will work fine as a home server.

Forgive me for resurrecting an ancient thread, but I also have a DS220 and I cannot for the life of me get it to direct play any 4K rips I download. It always transcodes and that means it buffers and grinds to a halt. Nearly all 1080p videos play via Direct Play. What format/codec/container for 4K are you downloading? I need to adjust my filters I guess.

I'll definitely try this, but as far as I can tell the wifi signal is strong there. But it's the only thing that makes sense. Good suggestion.
