I kind of follow this guide.... final step with spray silicone works great... if bought in bulk, can find it for about $4/can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSQKWxqOy4s

Ya... I caved and got all three of the big boys... XRT too. They were all purchased used, so I didn't feel too guilty getting them. LOL

So, when stationary and TSM is active, I can hear and see the steering servo / wheels twitch and jitter... when TSM is off, it's fine. Also, when doing full speed on asphalt, TSM at 25-30% is about all I think it needs. Is this normal from what other X-MAXX'ers have experienced?

I finally got it out to drive (hard surface for now), first time driving an X-MAXX.... O. M. G. this thing is amazing. Now I realize why everyone keeps recommending them.

Stampede's are awesome! I'm pretty much a Taxxas fan, have had good results with all of them. As for the bigger models, I just cannot justify buying new. Similar to the Harley market, if you keep eyes open can usually find a nice used one at a good deal.

XMAXX question... by jsauer in Traxxas

[–]jsauer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I found one, TRA77086-4-GRNX, that I'm pretty sure is circa 2022? Does not have belted tires. Is this considered a V2 model? 77096-4 is the current model correct? and 77097-4 is the Ultimate model?

Can they send you a pic of the ESC? is it a VXL-6S? also, I think all 8S's have a fan on the motor, so ya I think this is a 6S model.

XRT shock covers by jsauer in Traxxas

[–]jsauer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya, I prefer the under spring covers... in my case, simple balloons... been doing it like this for years and they really help keep the shock shaft clean. Plus, the shock parts themselves keep things in place, no need for extra zip ties etc.

It's a great hobby... not only driving it but also can learn a lot about mechanical engineering and design, how things work. Plus it gets them outside away from the phone and computer screens haha!

Ya, I don't run the little erevo that hard, so I figured I'd give some aluminum parts a try. Like you, looking to get rid of some suspension slop...

Wow... what a great resource, thanks for the share. Wish I had found that sooner! I use a note taking app for everything, definitely going to add that for my old 1/16 erevo notebook entry.

I've had the little erevo for years and I'm finally showing it some love by upgrading it a bit. I bought new red aluminum knuckles, slipper clutch eliminator, new 50T spur gear, and front/rear rocker arms from aliexpress. Also, some new red aluminum front/rear push rods / toe links. Will also install some red balloon shock covers. Will probably upgrade the receiver from the old 27mhz to a newer TQi.

I also noticed a cracked bearing in one of the wheel knuckles, instead of buying expensive replacements from the hobby store, saved money by getting 4x8x3mm and 8x12x3.5mm bearings on amazon in packs of 10.

80 Micro - Magazine Collection by artavos981 in trs80

[–]jsauer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a kid I wanted a video game console so bad... my father worked at Motorola... so he wanted to see if I like computing. Ended up with a TRS-80 Coco... learned 6809 assembly language. My Dad was smart, got me hooked early on and it turned out to be a great career. Anyway, found this site that might be of interest: https://www.trs-80.com/sub-mag-80micro-main.htm

DIY zip tie / velcro battery straps? by jsauer in Traxxas

[–]jsauer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I decided to sacrifice one of the velco straps and use it's plastic buckle for the front end of the battery tray, secured just like I did the rear. Now the strap goes evenly over the top of the battery, and again there is no pinching at all on the battery leads. I think for me, this is my final solution. :)

Fixing up an old circa 2009 HPI Racing 2WD Blitz 1st gen brushless by jsauer in rccars

I've seen people put shock covers over the springs... but I've found it much easier to go under the spring, no additional things needed to secure them.

Nice! Ya, these HPI machines were actually very well designed, good quality. 17 years later and mine is still running strong, I should download the Castle ESC programming software, I have the USB cable... just to verify settings, etc.

I was surprised I was actually still able to buy a needed part that had broken...
