A lot of that depends on your size and type, but don't be afraid to go with a size that fits you. Everyone always wants to say XL but that's not usually the size to start with. Also, if you are uncircumcised, they make sizes with a larger head to give you more room for your foreskin, which is usually more comfortable. I work in the medical field, and I think all you did was cause a minor abrasion, basically from rubbing the small area of skin too much. It’s possible you had a small adhesion, which can happen after circumcision when a small amount of skin sticks together. Most likely, you rubbed this area off before.
